In 1996,

Action Africa Help International (AAIN) became Aktion Africa Hilfe e. V (AAH)

and was registered in Munich, Germany from where our founders in 2003 moved the

organisation’s headquarters to Kenya. AAH-I now works with refugees, host

communities and other marginalized and vulnerable groups in Kenya, Uganda,

Somalia and South Sudan, where it operates across a range of sectors that seek

to bridge relief to development.


Action Africa

Help Uganda (AAH Uganda) has been receiving funding from the United Nations

High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to implement programmes in the Districts

of Hoima (Kyangwali Refugee Settlement), Adjumani District and Kampala.


Job

Summary:
The Enterprise Development will the support refugee communities to

lessen dependency on humanitarian aid and diversify their livelihoods through

imparting business skills and identifying complementary and/or alternative

livelihood opportunities to farming-based livelihoods.


Key

Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
Generate a mapping of business sectors that the

refugees are engaged in and develop plans to improve those businesses


·        
Develop capacity building plans and training

materials to train identified youth and women in business literacy and

management.


·        
Plan and deliver the vocational training schemes,

linked to the market demand, particularly targeting youth and women for gainful

and self-employment


·        
Identify and promote market opportunities for

skills and products for the refugee communities, both within the Settlement and

other commercial hubs outside the Settlement.


·        
Build and strengthen working relationships with

key local refugee stakeholders who have been particularly successful in developing

income-generating livelihood initiatives and work with them to up-scale or

replicate the initiatives


·        
Promote the use of ICT as a non-traditional way of

enhancing refugees’ economic activities.


·        
Facilitate the formation and capacity building of

VSLAs and SACCOs as viable business operating units and capacity building

platforms.


·        
Participate in research, facilitating learning and

documentation of promising or best practices


·        
Actively participate in Sector planning/reviews,

budgeting and cultivate a synergistic working relationship with other Programme

Sectors.


·        
Prepare and submit timely weekly updates and

monthly reports to the Supervisor.


Qualifications,

Skills and Experience: 


·        
The applicant for the UNHCR AAH Enterprise

Development Officer employment vacancy should hold a Bachelor’s degree in

Business Administration, Agribusiness, Entrepreneurship or Economics.


·        
At least three years’ experience working with

youth and women groups to develop their skills in small business management.


·        
Previous experience of proposal writing, log-frame

development and donor reporting.


·        
Proven ability to train and mobilise communities.


·        
Strong project management experience and

familiarity with Uganda’s agriculture and natural resources systems


·        
Ability to conduct situational analysis and write

concept notes and project proposals


·        
Ability to build capacity, develop others and work

across programme sectors


·        
Excellent analytical skills and fluent writing

skills.


·        
Excellent IT skills including strong knowledge of

MS Word applications


·        
Excellent communications, interpersonal and

training skills and track record of building/developing cohesive teams.


·        
Ability to ride motorcycle, with a valid rider

permit
