Job Title: Radio Operator

Background
Under the guidance and supervision of the Security Advisor, the Radio Operator will be responsible for assisting the Security Advisor in Uganda in the execution of his security responsibilities at the assigned duty station.
Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure appropriate security telecommunications support to all UN staff and provide support to critical inter-agency telecommunication hubs.
Ensure proper communication procedures on VHF/HF communications on the net.
Track movement of vehicles in the field through well defined procedures.
Monitor the HF/VHF radios during security incidents for incoming security calls as the need arises.
Transmit and receive security related information in to/from all concerned and participate in staff emergency/medical evacuation.
Maintain records and report any technical problems immediately to the Telecoms/ICT Staff for prompt and on the spot troubleshooting.
Provide feedback to the Telecommunications technicians on potential improvements in HF/VHF voice systems.
Answer and record incoming telephone calls during office and non-working hours.
Competencies
Both good spoken and written English exhibited
Self motivated and reliable
Computer literacy
Good radio telecommunication SAT phones and inter personal skills with a vast experience.
Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Secondary education both O and A levels
Experience:
Minimum 4 years in in telex, facsimile and radio operations as well as certificate in Radio Communications. Familiarity with the operations and services such as PABX, radio, satellite, will be an added advantage.
Language:
Fluency in written and spoken English.
