Risk Manager

A leading  telecom company has taken its niche in the telecom industry in Uganda by storm – enjoying phenomenal growth and an unrivalled and unparalleled profile. Now we are looking for resources with the drive, character and ambition to contribute to the growth of the organization in a new and exciting period of further development of the company in the Audit and Risk Management function.

Reports to the Head of Audit and Risk Management

Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Leading a team of Risk management experts in implementing the leading Telecom strategy within a framework agreed by the Head of  Audit and Risk Management, which meets requirements for creating and delivering shareholder value

•    Establishing an enterprise-wide Risk management framework and risk strategy which offers a structured, consistent and continuous process improvement across the organisation.   

•    Facilitating the alignment of risk appetite with strategy and establishing an appropriate risk environment.

The successful candidates will demonstrate:

•    Good analytical skills.

•    Personal commitment to meet or exceed all targets and objectives

•    Identifying  risks i.e. potential threats to  the achievement of objectives

•    Assessing risks, including their impact and likelihood of occurring and developing a risk matrix

•    Submitting the risk matrix/profile on a timely basis to audit section in order to develop an annual risk based audit plan.   

•    Drawing up a risk process/procedures manual for approval by EXCO through documenting risks and managing multiple and cross enterprise risks.

•    Undertaking response and other control activities by responding to and reporting on opportunities and threats that affect the achievement of objectives 

•    Recommending and participating in the implementation of  appropriate controls to mitigate risk 

•    Communicating information on risks consistently at all levels in the organization.

•    Examining, evaluating, reporting and recommending improvements on the adequacy and effectiveness of management’s risk processes.

•    Centrally monitoring and coordinating the risk management processes and the outcomes.

•    Promoting company-wide risk awareness.

•    Providing assurance on the effectiveness with which risks are managed.

•    Preventing and detecting fraud and following up on the implementation of recommended action 

•    Explaining the leading Telecom’s Risk management strategy to key stakeholders and ensuring that it drives operational staff.

•    Submitting Reports to the Head of Audit and Risk management on a timely basis.

•    Obtaining, maintaining and developing a Risk Management staff capable of accomplishing the Risk management function.

•    Appraising Risk management staff and providing counsel on their performance and professional development.

•    Using relevant metrics and measures to routinely monitor Risk management progress against targets and taking appropriate action to ensure that all targets are met or exceeded.
