The Vision Group incorporated as the New

Vision Printing & Publishing Company Limited (NVPPCL), started business in

March 1986. It is a multimedia business housing newspaper, magazines, internet

publishing, television, radio broadcasting, commercial printing, advertising

and distribution services. NVPPCL is listed on the Uganda Stock Exchange, with

an expected turnover of over UGX 60 billion (FY 2010/2011).

Job Summary:  The

Pre-press Officer will render support in ensure timely and accurate output of

the jobs at to meet the requirements of the business.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Conduct
  
  a weekly and daily maintenance of the machines in order to make sure the
  
  machines are in good working state and clean.


• The
  
  incumbent will interpret job cards from different departments in order to
  
  ensure the right job is done and to the right specifications.


• Regularly
  
  check the soft copy of art work in order to avoid font crashes, wrong
  
  dimension and poor images as well as ensure right colors to be printed.


• Forward
  
  prepress print proofs to clients for approval or printers in order to
  
  minimize wastage.


• Ensure
  
  plates are accurately output according to a proper layout in time and
  
  ensure job accuracy after printing.


• Oversee
  
  the coordination of jobs between the editorial, design house, printing
  
  traffic controllers and printers in order to prevent errors and time
  
  wastage.


• Make
  
  requisitions for materials needed from stores in order to ensure timely
  
  availability for usage.


• To
  
  retouch poor photos in the newspaper pages and advise on commercial art
  
  work picture quality.


• Expeditiously
  
  follow-up Editorial pages, Bukedde, Advertising pages and Regionals.


• Perform
  
  any other duties as assigned by the Pre-press
  
  Manager.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

• The
  
  applicant for the Vision Group Pre-press Officer should hold a Degree in
  
  Commercial Industrial Art and Design from a recognized institution.


• A
  
  minimum of three years’ practical experience in a busy design pre-press
  
  environment (one who has worked with a CTP machine has an added
  
  advantage).


• Proficient
  
  in the use of the latest design software i.e. Adobe creative suite (InDesign,
  
  Illustrator and Photoshop).


• Possess
  
  the ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision and flexible
  
  to stretch working hours where need be.


• Possess
  
  excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
