War Child Canada is an international non-governmental organization which

is helping mothers and families around the world give their children a safe

start in life and give their communities the best chance of a peaceful future. Children

represent both the immediate present and the society’s future, which is why

protecting those childhoods is the key to breaking the cycle of violence. When

war breaks out, children look to those close to them for protection.


Job Summary: The Protection

Officer will be responsible for delivering a safe from the start War Child

Canada SGBV programme for South Sudanese refugees and host communities.


Key Duties and

Responsibilities: 

  • Assisting survivors and persons at risk of

    SGBV to access lifesaving protection services.

  • In charge of delivering protection

    activities that promote increased access to services for SGBV survivors.

  • Supporting facilitation of training of

    trainers (ToT).

  • In charge of developing plans and

    facilitate community awareness raising sessions on protection and SGBV.

  • Collect and maintain data relevant to

    monitoring and evaluating the project and with the assistance of the

    Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, analyze and prepare reports on results.

  • In charge of developing and maintaining strong

    knowledge management practice.

  • Perform any other related duties as shall

    be assigned by War Child Canada.


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 

  • The War Child Canada Protection Officers

    should hold a university degree preferably in law, community development,

    education, psychology, health sciences, political science or a related

    field.

  • A minimum of two years’ experience working

    with community, preferably refugees and SGBV.

  • High level of enthusiasm and a community-focused

    individual who is resilient to adversities and committed to child

    protection and working with and for survivors and persons at risk of SGBV.

  • Fluency in local languages relevant to

    listed field location and an excellent working knowledge of spoken and

    written English.

  • Computer literacy i.e. proficiency in

    Microsoft Excel, word and email applications.

  • Excellent understanding of issues

    important to women and children affected by war.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation

    skills
