Vacancies - ANPPCAN Uganda

THE African Network for the Prevention and Protection against Child Abuse and Neglect (ANPPCAN) Uganda Chapter is a national child focused organization working to protect and promote the rights of children with particular focus on preventing and redressing violations of children's rights.

ANPPCAN Uganda Chapter seeks to recruit competent dynamic and creative individuals to join her team of passionate child advocacy professionals in the following positions;

 1. Position Description: Programme Officer Organisational Development and Capacity Building

 Reports to: Programme Coordinator Organisational Development

 No. of vacancies: 1

 Duty Station: National Secretariat, Kampala

Major Responsibilities: Programme Development: Spear head and ensure the preparation and submission of winning funding applications for ANPPCAN Uganda Chapter's programme development

District Branch Coordination: Ensure effective flow, coordination and management of information between ANPPCAN Secretariat and her District Branches and Field offices and provide technical support in the implementation of project activities at district level.

Monitoring and Evaluation: Support and undertake programme monitoring and evaluation responsibilities across the entire spectrum of ANPPCAN's interventions.

Qualifications And Experience

Minimum of a Degree in Social Work and Social Administration, Social Sciences, Project Planning and Management, Development Studies or related field obtained from a recognized institution.

Minimum of two years working experience in the field of proposal development, and project management.

Good working knowledge and experience in using MS office applications is a MUST.

Proven effective coordination skills.

Proficiency in both oral and written English is a MUST.

Applicants should have the ability to work with minimum supervision, and handle a large volume of work while maintaining quality.

Age range of 23 - 35 years.

2. Position Description: Programme Officer Research and Policy Advocacy

Reports to: Programme Coordinator Research, Information and Policy Advocacy

No. of vacancies: 1

Duty Station: National Secretariat, Kampala

Major Responsibilities

Undertake relevant research activities, collect, review, analyze and disseminate available and relevant information so as to inform and guide ANPPCAN's advocacy and public education work.

Participate in lobbying and advocacy activities and contribute to positive advocacy outcomes at national and district levels.

Identify, build and maintain strategic linkages, relations, collaborations and networks with partners and other stakeholders in planning, implementing, policy influencing and advocacy at National level.

Prepare budgets and work plans, and ensure adherence to the approved work plans and budgets in program implementation.

Undertake program monitoring, documentation and reporting in compliance with agreed organizational standards.

Assist in identifying funding opportunities and writing grant proposals.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum of a Degree in Social Work and Social Administration, Social Sciences, Project Planning and Management, Development Management or research and information related field obtained from a recognized institution.

At least two years relevant experience in carrying out Social Research assignments and Advocacy initiatives /advocacy programs in at local and national level.

Good working knowledge and experience in the use of varied research methodologies and data analysis packages such as SPSS is a must.

Hands on experience in proposal writing, budgeting and budget management

Good interpersonal skills; ability to work in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.

Age range of 23 - 35 years.

3. Position Description: Finance Officer

Reports to: Head of Finance and Administration

No. of Vacancies: 1

Duty Station: Kasese District

Major Responsibilities

Receive, review and process requests for disbursement of funds by programme implementing partners.

Receive, review and scrutinize funds accountability from partners for accuracy, reasonableness and appropriateness.

Ensure compliance by ANPPCAN’S partners with financing guidelines, procedures and standards.

Maintain complete and up-to-date programme books of accounts.

Prepare and submit regular consolidated programme, financial and administrative reports.

Build the capacity of ANPPCAN'S staff and partners in financial management.

Undertake any other assignments necessary for the effective management of the programme.

Qualifications and Experience

A Bachelors Degree in Commerce (Accounting) or Business Administration (Accounting) or Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA). Additional qualifications in Administration, Project Planning and Management or Human Resource Management are advantageous.

A minimum of 3 years working experience in accounting and finance with experience in a supervisory or management tasks preferably in the NGO sector.

Proficiency in IT applications such as Word, Excel, Access, as well as database and accounting packages is a must. Knowledge of "quick books" is advantageous.

Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills with good command of spoken and written English.

Innovativeness, flexibility and ability to manage multiple and competing demands.

Ability to function well as part of a muliti-disciplinary team.

Dynamic, hard working, result oriented and able to work with  minimum supervision.

4. Position Description: Programme Assistant

Reports to: Programme Officer, Kasese District Branch

No. of vacancies: 1

Duty Station: Kasese District

Major Responsibilities

Participate in implementation of programs for child protection, empowerment, education and HIV/AIDS.

Participate in operationalizing the approved monitoring and learning systems.

Support in assessment and coordination of capacity development programs to partners.

Engage community members to promote child protection, empowerment education and HIV/AIDS prevention and mitigation in communities.

Provide support services (medical, psychosocial and other necessary support) to abused children and effectively link them to other services.

Participate in advocacy work at the district and community level.

Prepare of periodic narrative reports.

Document processes, lessons learnt, good practices and share them with stakeholders.

Participate in mobilization of resources for ANPPCAN's programs.

Qualifications and Experience

A degree in Social Work and Social Administration, Development Studies, Community/ Social/ Counseling Psychology, Social Sciences with a minimum of 2 years experience in a similar job. Additional skills in Project Planning and Management are an advantage.

Basic understanding of child rights programming

Experience in HIV/AIDS, Advocacy, Livelihoods and Education programs for children are an advantage.

Must be fluent in Lukonzo and or Rutoro

Age range of 23 - 35 years.

5. Position Description: Legal Assistant

Reports to: Programme Officer, Arua District Branch Office

No. of vacancies: 2

Duty Stations: (1) Arua District and (1) Kasese District

Major Responsibilities

Receiving and handling cases of child rights violations through the provision of legal guidance, legal follow up and representation within the justice system.

Ensuring appropriate and effective referral of abused children for other support services as may be required.

Undertaking community education and awareness activities on child rights issues.

Build the capacity of duty bearers in the provision of legal services for abused children

Engaging with key actors and duty bearers at community and district level in order to ensure an effective and child friendly support system for abused children.

Participating in the development and implementation of programmes and other practical measurements for the protection of children from abuse, neglect and exploitation through community mobilization, awareness and education on the rights of children at district and community level as well as follow up and provision of services to abused children.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Law from a recognized institution with a practicing certificate that is admissible in the High Court of Uganda.

At least one year's experience in the provision of Legal Aid services either as a volunteer or regular staff in a professional setting.

A sound understanding of the legal, policy and institutional framework for the protection of children's rights in Uganda is a must.

Psycho-social competencies are advantageous

Willing and able to work well at a community level in a rural environment.

Ability to function well as part of a muliti-disciplinary team

Dynamic, hard working, result oriented and able to work with minimum supervision

Must be fluent in Lugbara (Arua), Lukonzo and or Rutoro (Kasese)

6. Position Description: Data Entrant

No. of vacancies: 1

Reports to: Programme Officer, Arua District Branch Office

Duty Station: Arua District

Major Responsibilities

Responsible for ensuring that the programme data collected is suitable for qualitative and quantitative analysis.

Responsible for data sorting, cleaning and analysis.

Assist the Programme Officer in compiling programme reports and timely dissemination to respective stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum of a Degree in Statistics related field or a diploma with at least two years' experience in data management.

Proficiency in electronic data management programmes such as SPSS, EPE info etc.

Demonstrable experience in social research data entry and management.

Good working knowledge and experience of Microsoft office applications is a must.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to maintain flexibility in working hours.

Good interpersonal skills

Age range of 23 - 35 years.

Being a part-time position, residents in Arua are particularly encouraged to apply.

Working hours will be 2 days per week on a flexible basis.
