Community Trainer (Volunteer)

A degree holder in African Philosophy and Divinity, Rural Development, Community Leadership or a relevant field, you will have a strong ideological and philosophical orientation and understanding of humanistic movements that have helped to alleviate millions of people out of poverty, such as Ubuntu, Harambee and Saemaul Undong. As Change Agent and Community Leader, you will have a few years? practical experience under your belt volunteering with rural communities in poor parts of the world. We are specifically looking for someone who is comfortable using the learning by doing / experiential learning approach to plan, implement and evaluate capacity development interventions. You will mainly work at the village level helping to train and mentor village leaders, development committees and community groups to initiate and run sustainable self-help projects. To excel in this role you will have excellent interpersonal and community relations skills. Your survival in a remote African village will require a repertoire of skills and hobbies: blogging, fundraising, photography, film-making, research, comedy, story-telling, sports etc. Above all, you will be curious, highly motivated, enthusiastic and able to cope with stress and live and work with limited resources. Unfortunately, we do not cover medical insurance, flights or any other additional costs. Land transport by public means for candidates within the East African Community (EAC) will be refunded at end of placement.
