Principal Education Officer (Counselling Services)

Reports to:               Assistant Commissioner (Guidance and Counselling)
Purpose of the Job
To provide technical support in the formulation of policies/ strategies, plans, guidelines and programmes for effective provision of guidance and counselling services in the Education Sector.
Duties/Responsibilities

Provide technical advice, support and guidance to Education Managers on matters pertaining to the delivery of counselling services to learners and staff within the Education Sector;Facilitate and guide capacity building  programmes for Counsellors, Technical Staff and Managers of Education and Training Institutions to enhance the delivery of  counselling in the Education Sector;Participate in monitoring and evaluating the implementation of Counseling  policies, strategies, plans, programmes and guidelines in School and training institutions;Develop and support the implementation of counseling and referral guidelines for teachers, pupils/students and other relevant stakeholders;Participate in designing and implementing programmes aimed at assisting families, students and professionals in providing quality interventions that enable student exploit their potential maximally;Conduct assessment of students? needs at Local Government and National level to inform policy development and development of appropriate interventions;Participate in placement of primary seven and ordinary level leavers into secondary and tertiary education and training institutions in collaboration with relevant departments;Prepare and submit reports in respect of Counseling programmes and activities in education and training institutions to relevant authorities;Participate in designing and development of appropriate guidance and counseling Services guidelines,programmes and other interventions for various categories of stakeholders in the Education SectorParticipate in the planning and budgeting for the activities of the Division.Any other duties as may be assigned by the relevant authority.
