MicroEnsure achieves this by developing and implementing appropriate products and services for our clients, enabling them to address the risks they face in life.
MicroEnsure works in partnership with a host of organizations including mobile phone companies, banks, microfinance institutions, retailers, faith-based and humanitarian organizations. MicroEnsure’s services include product and program design, insurance and reinsurance placement, partner training, marketing development and delivery, sales management, back office management and provider networking.
Job Summary:
The Country Project Manager – Uganda will be responsible for overseeing the key relationship management, general operations and financial performance and for ensuring that large accounts launch and implement MicroEnsure products with high potential for scale, receive superior service, and grow their business with us over time. Micro insurance is an emerging industry in Uganda, so MicroEnsure must continue to set the standard for product innovation, business process acumen and service excellence.
In addition, as the first employee in Uganda, the Country Project Manager will be expected to support the establishment of MicroEnsure as a legal entity in Uganda and grow the company’s network and partnerships with distribution partners, the insurance regulatory authority, and insurance partners.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Major Project Management:
Take responsibility for bringing 1-3 major projects to market and growing them to financial and operational sustainability within the first 12 months, serving as the key local contact for all work-streams, clients, and regional and global MicroEnsure staffIdentify project interdependencies and conflicts and manage appropriatelyBalance disciplined project management structures with entrepreneurial interests and requirementsDevelop, manage and report against project budgets and objectivesCreate and manage project structures, reporting and communication plansSteer project teams in deliverable execution against project plansIdentify and manage resource constraintsIdentify, document and communicate project risks and exposures. Develop methods to mitigate identified risks2. Partner Relationship Management:
Establish and maintain excellent communication with management and operational staff, as well as with regional and global MicroEnsure staffCapitalize on opportunities and address operational weaknesses with urgency and focus; pursue a model of ongoing innovation and improvementDevelop communication and partnership management routines and practices, together with regional MicroEnsure account management resourcesEnsure an excellent reputation for MicroEnsure both within and beyond partner networksProactively identify value added products and services to enhance business delivery3. Financial Management:
Develop a profitable micro insurance business, governed by outreach, revenue and profit targets agreed between Senior Management and the Acting Country HeadCompile and send updated reports, forecasts and projections relating to the development of the business as per a defined scheduleDevelop business plans for long term growth and profitability of the MicroEnsure Uganda business4. Operational Delivery:
Work with the operations teams, locally and globally, to maintain effective, efficient operations to handle processing of business and reporting of resultsEnsure that service at all levels, including claims, enrolment and reporting, is of the highest quality5. Market Awareness:
Ensure a deep understanding of the insurance needs of the low-income market within MicroEnsure UgandaAnticipate opportunities in the marketplace by organizing market research efforts among current and potential clientsUse research insights to deliver value in current products, identify new products, and make critical changes in operations and communication6. Public Relations:
Promote visibility to the market which evokes the image of compassion, ethics and integrity, projecting the values and image of the organizationOrganize press events around MicroEnsure achievements, new partnerships and product launchesCompile and distribute client impact stories for publication within partner networks7. Team Leadership:
Recruit strong Madagascan professionals to deliver operational servicesProvide strong leadership, mentoring and guidance to all of the MicroEnsure Uganda teamEncourage a culture of continuous improvement and innovationEnsure the team is motivated to perform effectivelyWork closely with the team to learn the business, gain employee trust and make an impact on the daily operations of the business8. Senior Leadership (Head Office) Participation:
Ensure that Senior Management are informed as required of progress, risks and issues relating to operational and service deliverySteer and interface with Senior Management including financial, operational and strategic reviewDevelop key relationships across technical global leaders at MicroEnsure to bring top products, services and best practices to Uganda9. Client Education and Staff Training:
Work closely with the regional MicroEnsure team, develop and maintain a robust client education program including training materials for customer-facing partner staffConduct audits and training workshops at the field level as necessaryEnsure that end customers have a strong understanding and appreciation of our productsCompile and distribute client outcome stories for publication within partner networksQualifications, Skills and Experience:
The applicant should hold a four-year degree qualification required, Master degree preferredAt least ten years’ work experience preferred, with a track record of achievement and responsibilityPrior experience in market research techniques, product development and competitor analysisPast exposure and experience in working with low-income persons in professional or informal settingsStrong business and project management experienceAppreciation and concern for the plight of low-income peopleWorking knowledge of financial services or telecommunications sector essential, knowledge of insurance preferredStrong organizational, analytical, relational and time management skillsPossess the ability to effectively present and sell concepts to managers in partner organizations who are often not familiar with insuranceAbility to train staff members and low-income individuals in unfamiliar insurance conceptsFacility with statistical analytics and an understanding of the importance of data-driven decision-making in the businessAbility to build strong relationships and utilize contacts for new business opportunitiesAbility to perform business analysis by utilizing operational, financial and other dataWillingness to work as a team member with people across geographies and culturesStrong self-starter able to perform tasks with minimal inputCommitment to model and articulate MicroEnsure’s social mission and valuesFluency in spoken and written French essential; English & local language functionality a plusStrong knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, including using these tools to present materials orally and in written form.How to Apply:
