The Danish Refugee
Council (DRC) is a private, independent, humanitarian organization working on
all aspects of the refugee cause in more than 36 countries throughout the
world. The aim of DRC is to protect refugees and internally displaced persons
(IDPs) against persecution and to promote durable solutions to the problems of
forced migration, on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. DRC
works in accordance with the UN Conventions on Refugees and the Code of Conduct
for the ICRC and NGOs in Disaster Relief.
Job Summary: The Protection Assistant – SGBV will provide
day to day management of SGBV prevention and response activities and other
related protection activities in Rhino camp refugee settlement under the
supervision of the Protection Officer - SGBV.
You will undertake
all SGBV prevention and response related activities that may include among
others; the entire SGBV individual case management processes, training of SGBV
prevention and response structures, awareness raising activities, fora with
opinion leaders and Focus group discussions etc. You will work and liaise
closely with Protection Officer - SGBV, and other protection team members on
implementation and documentation of program activities as per the donor
requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure 100% of SGBV
cases reported access Safety and security on case by case basis during the
project period.

Throughout
the project period ensure that SGBV survivors are provided temporary shelter
when further threats and risks are eminent
·
Provide
basic psycho social counselling to survivors on a case by case basis throughout
the project period
·
Deliver
food and material assistance to SGBV survivors on a case by case basis
throughout the project period
·
Facilitate
and document medical referrals and follow up, including provision of transport
and accommodation where necessary during the project period
·
Ensure
linking of survivors for IGAs and other livelihoods opportunities to reduce
their vulnerability.
Ensure 100% full
Participation of community in SGBV prevention and response is enabled and
sustained through the project period.

Conduct
SGBV awareness raising sessions and meetings on monthly basis in the area of
jurisdiction.
·
Hold
monthly meetings with SGBV Taskforce, Male Action Groups and SASA Community
Activists to assess progress and feedback on SGBV prevention and response.
·
Establish,
train and support Male Action Groups (MAGs)
·
Establish
and support safe spaces for women and adolescent girls and boys within the
settlements where they can share experiences, build support networks and
relationships, strengthen their confidence and build their skills in income
generating activities to empower them to have access and control of resources
and reduce their vulnerability to GBV.
·
Train
SASA! Community Activists (CAs) in Rhino camp refugee settlement in the course
of the project span.
Ensure that
advocacy is conducted for full participation of community in SGBV prevention
and response during the project period.

Facilitate
community structures to participate in SGBV advocacy activities both locally
and at district level.
·
Actively
engage in the commemoration of international days and campaign events like the
16 days of activism against SGBV and the International Women’s other
international days on GBV as stipulated.
·
Ensure
that funds allocated to activities are used adequately
·
Ensure
that funds are used in accordance with all DRC / DDG finance procedures.
·
On
request perform any other additional duties assigned by the supervisors in
order to allow the organization to function optimally.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The
ideal applicant for the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Protection Assistant -
SGBV job must hold a University degree in social sciences, guidance and counselling
or relevant fields.
·
At least
two years’ experience working with vulnerable communities, basic needs and
protection programming experience, and/or advocacy programs.
·
Professional
training in Gender based violence is advantageous.
·
Experience
in protection interventions in line with Refugees operation with wide Knowledge
in SASA methodology and other community-based protection.
·
Proficiency
in English (written and spoken) is essential.
·
Good
communication skills and ability to conduct trainings and awareness sessions
·
Good computer
skills.
·
Good
self-organization and basic management skills.
·
Familiarity
with Monitoring Evaluation Learning and Accountability for donor funded refugee
response projects desired.
·
Languages:
Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is essential. Fluency in any of the
local languages spoken in the operation area is an asset.
