USAID PHS Program Careers - Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) Coordinator


Organisation: USAID/Uganda Private Health Support ProgramDuty Station:  Kampala, UgandaReports to: Quality and Accreditation Associate (QAA)The USAID-funded USAID/Uganda Private Health Support Program is USAID’s flagship private sector health program in Uganda, and will contribute to establishing a more viable and cost-effective private sector option for health services in Uganda. The Objectives of the program are:Expanded availability of health services by private service providers;Increased affordability of private health services and products; andImproved quality of private health sector facilities and services.Job Summary: The Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision (VMMC) Coordinator will primarily be responsible for the safe male medical circumcision program in the private sector supported health facilities in Uganda. This is a volunteer assignment under the Australian Volunteers for International Development program, an Australian Government, AusAID initiative. Airfares, living allowances, accommodation, insurance and other support is provided through the program.

The Malaria and Childhood Illness Secretariat (MACIS) is a registered network of 450 civil society organisations in Uganda, all of which are engaged in malaria and maternal & child health activities.

MACIS wants to improve communication with its member organisations through meetings, email and its website.

It is seeking an AVID volunteer to help develop newsletters and other communication products, assist with proposals, monitor and participate in key health-related events and establish links to onsite learning platforms to help its members.

DENIVA is a National Network of Non-Governmental and Community Based Organizations. Founded in 1 988 DENIVA provides its members and other CSOs with a platform and support to pursue policy advocacy and related issues in a collective manner with the main goal of poverty reduction, good governance and empowerment of the marginalized. The over 800 strong membership comprises of local, district, regional, national NGOs, CBOs and FBOs operating in different parts of the country and pursuing a wide range of developmental interests. DENIVA celebrated its 20 years of existence in 2009, and as it enters a new decade, DENIVA is revitalizing itself to enhance its relevance and responsiveness in a rapidly changing socio-economic and political environment. Position: Executive Director

The Executive Director heads the Secretariat of the Organization and is responsible for providing strategic direction and marketing of the organization, its values direction and marketing of the organization, its values and programmes. This position requires an outstanding performer able to build and lead a team of highly motivated staff and membership. The person must be aggressive, intellectual with a passion in work in NGO sector across issues and at different levels
QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND PROFILE:
? Minimum of Masters Degree in Social Sciences, Arts, Humanities or Development related field
? At least 10 years experience working with an NGO of which five must be at a senior level with extensive experience working with Donors, reporting and management of donor funds
? Strong management skills, with ability to coach, mentor and develop staff, proven record of building and managing teams and creating an enabling work environment, including the ability to effectively lead, develop and evaluate staff performance. Should demonstrate strong oral and writing skills, including ability to convey complex concepts to different stakeholders in a clear and concise style
? Outstanding coordination skills, with ability, to manage multiple activities concurrently, work under pressure, and to tight deadlines
? Commands a high level of respect and tact when dealing with stakeholders including civil society representatives, Government officials, donors and other stakeholders
? Should have practical Research experience with clear understanding of research concepts models and

POSITION: COORDINATOR POLICY ANALYSIS AND MONITORING (POVERTY REDUCTION AND LIVELIHOOD)

General Description:
DENIVA seeks to recruit a Coordinator Policy Analysis and Monitoring Poverty Eradication and Livelihood Improvement Programme (PELIP) to work under the supervision of the Assistant Executive Director-Programmes at DENIVA secretariat. He/she will take lead in local, regional and national policy and advocacy initiatives and contribute effectively in the realization of the DENIVA advocacy programme objectives and desired results that are related to agriculture, trade and climate change. He/she will also work closely with the DENIVA member organizations across the country.

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND PROFILE:
? A Masters Degree preferably in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Economic Development or related discipline
? At least three years experience working in a similar position with an NGO/CSO
? Knowledge of climate change issues both at the position with an NUU/USU
?Knowledge of climate change issues both at the National and international Levels
?Knowledge of international trade policies, tarrifs, treaties, and agreements and how they are linked to national practices and policies
?Proven track record in policy analysis, lobbying and advocacy work is essential.
? Ability to work effectively in teams, build positive working relationships and foster open communications
? Evidence of versatility in writing ability and capacity to use normal office and data management software
? Initiative, self-motivation and a commitment to continuously work toward improved results
? Excellent English language skills, both written and oral are required
? Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor

SPECIFIC TASKS AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
? Coordinate the implementation of activities and projects of poverty eradication and livelihood improvement programme with special reference to agricultural development, climate change and trade
? Provide strategic and technical support to DENIVA's advocacy work at national and local levels. This will include developing and operational policy and advocacy strategy.
? Research, analyze, monitor and report on local and international policies that affect the livelihood situations
? Supervise programme officers who directly implement the various projects.
?Build positive relationships with, engage with and represent DENIVA to advocacy coalitions and other relevant stakeholders and constituencies in support of DENIVA advocacy programme objectives
? Develop recommendations for policy and advocacy at local and national levels
? Ability to conceive innovative and effective research and communications approaches, ?Ability to think analytically and plan strategically.
? Ability to prioritize and work under pressure, use own initiative and work independently
? Carry-out other tasks as and when required by the supervisor
