Project Coordinator, GNO Enhancing Access to quality primary education project – 1 position based in Kamuli (One year project with possibility of extension based on results)
The project aims to improve reading and learning outcomes for primary school going pupils in Kamuli District. The project will employ Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) tools to assess the current literacy levels and design interventions to address the identified literacy gaps to improve early grade reading
Main responsibilities:
The successful candidate will report to the Program Unit Manager, Kamuli and his/her main responsibility will be to provide leadership in the coordination and overall delivery of the Enhancing Access to Quality Primary Education Project. In addition the incumbent will lead the project in planning, implementation, partnership management and reporting of the project. She/ he will be responsible for the timely delivery of the project; and with highest technical quality according to the objectives and approach in the project document and to the satisfaction of project stakeholders
Essential Competencies:
• Minimum of a bachelor degree in Education or any other related field
• At least 3 years experience in implementing education projects in Uganda
• Expertise in literacy education, in teacher training, early grade reading instruction and assessment, and reading material development
• Knowledge of environment and current effective practice on reading assessment, instruction, and training within Uganda UPE system
• Demonstrable abilities in planning, budget and reporting
• Excellent communication skills, both in written English and in face-to-face presentations
• Willingness to undertake travel throughout Uganda (at least 25% time on average per month).
• Assurance of efficient and effective delivery of the project
• Ability to work with people from diverse cultures and to lead and motivate people to work in teams
• Experience in coordinating education projects with strong technical expertise in education programming
• Excellent project management skills and experience
• Experience in managing education projects, especially literacy related education programming
• Computers skills in MS Office and Internet
