Project Coordinator – MHealth ( FULL TIME )
World Vision Uganda (WVU) is a Christian Relief, Development and Advocacy Non-Government Organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice in over 40 districts of Uganda. Position: Project Coordinator – MHealth
Reports to: Line supervisor: Program Officer & Functional
Supervisor:- ICT Manager
Location: Kampala
Project Profile: MHealth is an intervention in public health that is most commonly used in reference to using mobile communication devices. The mHealth field has emerged as a sub-segment of eHealth, the use of information and communication technology (ICT) such as computers, mobile phones, communications satellite, patient monitors, etc., for health services and information. MHealth applications include the use of mobile devices in collecting community and clinical health data, delivery of healthcare information to practitioners and other actors in the health sectors.
Purpose of position:
To provide leadership in all mheatth interventions for World Vision Uganda and ensure that roll out of projects using mhealth technology are compliant to the ICT laws and regulations of the country and are compatible to the global IT standards of World Vision.
Key Result Areas: Project Management:
• Take the lead in the roll out of mheatth projects in World Vision Uganda by ensuring that the projects are using the most appropriate innovative and cost effective technologies.
• Provide necessary technical guidance to project implemention during the course of the project
• Manage, supervise and build capacity of mhealth staff.
Monitoring, Reporting and Evaluation:
• Ensure that all mhealth and other related deliverables are achieved according to the detailed implementation plan.
• To work with the Program office in the preparation of quality project reports and ensuring that they are submitted on time to support offices and donors.
• Work with health staff and program development team in the roll out of baseline surveys and evaluation of project
Documentation, Research and Learning:
• Generate relevant reports from mhealth systems and ensure that mhealth stakeholder have access to information.
• Documentation of best practices and success stories in the application of mhealth interventions.
• Identify innovative trends and new technologies that can be applied or used in WV health programming.
• Contribute to the testing, appraisal, eventual promotion and adoption of innovative
• ICT4D applications within WVU and among WVU partner organizations; Capacity Building:
• Provide or create venues for learning for other WV staff to learn and apply
• Mhealth in programming by conducting mhealth trainings and exhibitions.
Partnership Development:
• Liaise with development agencies and partners on collaborative work related to mheatth and other initiatives
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• A university degree in IT or related field with further training in computer programming and IT project management approaches.
• 2-3 years of relevant professional experience in the mhealth domain as well as exposure to the full project cycle (i.e., programming, project processing to project administration); International NGO experience or in communications industry will be an advantage.
• Experienced and having keen interest in mhealth in the contexts of Uganda/East Africa.
• Proficient in the use of a range of innovative technologies. These may include mobile or PC-based ICTs, phone (SMS) and SMS to web technologies and broadcasting. Eager to discover and explore mhealth application appropriate to WVU working contexts.
• Experience in the integration of new technologies in development programs like health, education, water and sanitation with an intention of improving the well being of children.
• Experienced team worker. Encourages cooperation within and between teams and promotes the value of diversity in teams, such as in different views, culture, nationality, and gender.
• Must be a committed Christian
