Organisation: Dairy Development Authority (DDA) Duty Station:  Kampala, UgandaReports to: Regulatory Services Manager Dairy Development Authority is a Semi-Autonomous Agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries. Its mandate is to develop and regulate the dairy sector. It was established under the Dairy Industry Act, 1998 and its objectives are to provide proper coordination and efficient implementation of all Government policies which are designed to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency in the production of milk in Uganda by promoting production and competition in the dairy industry and monitoring the market for milk and dairy products. Job Summary: The Principal Dairy Inspector will primarily enforce and develop a spirit of voluntary compliance with established dairy standards and regulations governing the production, collection, transportation, processing, marketing and consumption of milk, in order to foster development of the dairy industry. Key Duties and Responsibilities:  Establish and maintain an effective and efficient system for ensuring compliance to dairy standards and regulations. Carry out regular inspections of milk handling premises, equipment and milk/dairy products aimed at disseminating guidelines for good, quality, safety, hygiene practices in milk handling, dairy processing facilities and premises to ensure compliance with both quality and safety standards and dairy regulations. Enforce dairy regulations to safe guard the public health and well-being of the consumers.  Establish and maintain systems to address stakeholder’s complaints and concerns regarding adherence to dairy standards and regulations. Implement consumer awareness campaign and sensitization programmes focusing on dairy standards and safety aspects. Generate and analyze statistical data and information on compliance with dairy standards and regulations to facilitate the evaluation of the regulatory framework. Pool dairy imports and exports data and carry out trend analysis. Perform any other duty as may be assigned from time to time. Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  The applicant should preferably hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Dairy Technology, Dairy Science, Food Science and Technology, Chemistry, Bio-chemistry or related qualifications from a recognized university. Post graduate qualification in a relevant field. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience of which three (3) years are at senior level. Exhaustive knowledge and skills in milk and dairy processing best practices, quality systems and application of dairy standards, laws and regulations relevant to the dairy industry. Supervises: Dairy Inspectors
Objectives of the Job
To enforce and develop a spirit of voluntary compliance with established quality standards, and regulations governing the production, transportation, processing, marketing and consumption of milk, in order to foster development of the dairy industry. Key Functions
1. Establish and maintain an effective and efficient system for ensuring compliance to regulations.
2. Conduct regular inspections of milk handling premises aimed at; disseminating guidelines for food safety, hygiene practices in milk handling, dairy processing facilities and premises to ensure compliance with both quality and safety standards and dairy regulations.
3. Enforce dairy regulations to safe guard public health and well being of milk consumers.
4. Establish and maintain systems to address consumers/farmers complaints and concerns regarding adherence to dairy standards ; and regulations.
5. Implement consumer awareness campaign and sensitization programmes focusing on dairy standards and regulatory aspects.

compliance with dairy standards and regulations to facilitate the •

Requirement:

Qualifications and Experience
1. Must have Bachelors Degree in Dairy Technology, Dairy Science, Food Science Technology, Chemistry, Bio-chemistry, or related qualifications from a recognized institution of higher learning.
2. Post graduate qualification in a management related field.
3. At least 3 years of relevant working experience.
4. Should have good knowledge and skills in milk processing best practices, Quality systems and application of dairy standards, laws and regulations relevant to the dairy industry in particular “the Dairy Industry Act, Public Health Act” etc.
5. Should have good interpersonal and communication skills and capable of working as a team leader
6. Should be highly innovative and creative thinker.
7. Must have excellent computer, writing and presentation skills
