The Company’s mandate is to increase the housing stock in the country, rehabilitate the housing industry and encourage Ugandans to own homes in an organized environment.The Senior Building Services Engineer will technically advise about, design, install, and maintain cost-effective and energy efficient systems for building services such as water, electrical lighting, heating, air conditioning, lifts, and telecoms; USAID Mercy Corps GHG Program Careers - Senior Engineering Officer


Project Name: Growth, Health and Governance (GHG) ProgramMercy Corps is an international non-profit organization which implements high-quality, analytical development work in very difficult places. We have been operating in Uganda since 2006 and currently implement development programs in the Acholi and Karamoja sub-regions of Uganda with funding from USAID, EC, SDC, and USDA. We were recently awarded a market-development focused 5-year USAID/Food for Peace-funded program working in the northern half of Karamoja. The project, called the Northern Karamoja Growth, Health and Governance (GHG) program, aims to support the immediate needs of program beneficiaries while promoting long-term development by spurring systemic improvements in key economic sectors of northern Karamoja. Job Summary: The Mercy Corps Senior Engineering Officer is responsible for supporting the implementation and supervision of all Engineering related activities mainly Health infrastructures and road construction. These activities will be implemented through contractors and the Senior Engineering Officer in collaboration with District Engineer will oversee the contractors and ensure quality deliverables of the same. The Engineering Officers will work closely with GHG Team Leader(s) and officers to better coordinate and implement activities in a timely manner. S/he will also expect to establish/strengthen good working relationships with all GHG partners. If you are well qualified to promote change and can demonstrate competences in relevant areas of the Central Bank, we encourage you to apply.To provide skilled work in the installation, repair, operation, and maintenance of Bank Generators, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration and General Mechanical Engineering works.Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to:· Coordinate preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs on all the generators of the Bank, Air Conditioning Plants and Refrigeration system, and General Mechanical works.· Assess maintenance needs of generators, parts replacement requirements and make appropriate recommendations.· Carry out routine checks on generators and air conditioning plant and equipment, and review performance.· Carry out verification of works done by maintenance service providers on the Bank plant and equipment· Evaluate maintenance costs viz a viz value for money§ Coordinate and ensure preventive maintenance and repair on the following systems:· Air Conditioning and Refrigeration system.· Regularly check and log the condition and status of the Bank generators, Air Conditioning systems and General Mechanics.· Provide timely information to the Bank on the performance assessment of the service providers.· Supervise the service contractors and submit reports thereof.Mechanical Engineering Technician Page 2§ Trouble-shoot and diagnose problems and perform maintenance on equipment under his/her jurisdiction.§ Make recommendations to replace equipment if expected cost to repair exceeds possible replacement cost. Minor installation decisions may be made if incumbent determines more efficient service could be provided. Maintains certain job worksheets detailing nature of assignment, parts utilized, time expended and type of work performed.§ Must collect data for reports.§ Ensure error free information. Effect of errors could result in longer down-time on equipment, probable delay in bank critical mission activities or other projects and possibly result in higher repair costs.· Cost effective and efficient operation of the mechanical equipment of the Bank.· Efficient and effective well maintained Mechanical systems.· Smoothly running and operational Bank generators.· Timely verification of maintenance needs of Bank Generators.· Well functioning Air Conditioning and Refrigeration systems.· Submission of performance monthly reports.· Well maintained safety standards in the operation of mechanical equipment.· An Advanced (Higher) Diploma in Mechanical Engineering with hands on experience.· At least 5 years practical relevant experience in Mechanical Engineering.· Strong organisational and communication skills and ability to make quick decisions.· Good team player in a diverse environment.· Problem sensitivity and problem solving skills.· Work and Activity scheduling skills.· Coordinating and monitoring skills.· Should be ready to work beyond normal call of duty.· Task and team centered qualities.· Self supervised and motivated .· Ambitious for self development.· Nature of work: Mechanical work· Decision Making: Have powers to financially commit the Bank in case of emergency repairs to a limit of one quarter of the section unit imprest in consultation with Services maintenance Engineer.· Interacts with: Asst/Deputy Director Engineering Services.Asst/Deputy Director General Administration.Services Maintenance Engineer.Procurement and Disposal Department.Application letters must be accompanied by:    A detailed Curriculum Vitae.
