Friends of Ruwenzori Fountation - Administrative Assistant (Part-Time)

Position description: Administrative Assistant, part-time 20 hours/week, temporary for 8 months, non-exempt. After 8 months, position may become permanent.

Organization: Founded in Orinda, CA, by Gil and Karen Gleason in 2004, the Friends of Ruwenzori Foundation (FOR) works in partnership with the Kitojo Integrated Development Association (KIDA) located in Western Uganda. FOR’s task is to raise funds for the operation of KIDA, a Ugandan-licensed nongovernmental organization. KIDA operates an AIDS clinic, a small community hospital, a vocational school and other programs that empower and educate the poor and AIDS-affected families in the surrounding rural villages. FOR raised and sent KIDA $132,000 in 2012. So far, FOR has operated as an all-volunteer organization, but is looking to expand its capacity by creating this part-time paid position.

Position: Reporting to FOR’s executive director, the administrative assistant will assist in day to day administrative and fundraising duties in the Orinda FOR office. Duties include:

• Maintain donor contact database
• Process donor donations and keep donor records
• Prepare donor receipts and invoices
• Assist with writing projects: website updates, newsletters, Facebook posts, solicitation letters
• Help with soliciting auction donations
• Organize and maintain office files
• Maintain office supplies inventory
• Administration tasks associated with annual fundraiser
• Assist with grant research and grant writing as time allows

Qualifications:

• Interest in and commitment to improving the lives of rural poverty-stricken Africans
• Computer skills required: proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word and some familiarity with Macintosh operating system
• Ability to compose letters and write clearly and succinctly
• Other skills: simple bookkeeping and editing
• Attention to detail, punctuality, dependability a must
• Education: two years of college or more
• Experience: two years of office experience with responsibility for record keeping, filing and report writing. Nonprofit and/or fundraising work a plus.
• People skills: customer service orientation, team player
• Experience in grant funding research a strong plus

Compensation: $22-28 an hour, commensurate with experience
