Job Title: Communication Specialist

Grade: NOC

Duty Station: Kampala

Type and Duration of Appointment: Fixed-Term Appointment (One year with possible extension)

Purpose of the post:

Under the general guidance of the Chief of Communication, the incumbent will be responsible for the conceptualization, planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation of an advocacy and communication strategy to promote respect for children’s and women’s rights in the public domain and strengthen political will in support of UNICEF’s mission in the country.

The incumbent will develop partnerships with individuals, groups and organizations whose support is essential to the achievement of advocacy and communication objectives and strengthen their capacity;

Act as focal point for adopting and disseminating advocacy materials and managing their production and distribution and participate in global advocacy activities to facilitate global/regional advocacy and mobilisation of resources.

Required Qualifications, Competencies and Attributes:

Advanced University degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations; or an equivalent professional work experience in the communication area, combined with an advanced university degree in a related discipline.

Five years of progressively responsible professional work experience in communication, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media, of which two years should be in developing countries.

Fluency in English is required and strong written and verbal communications skill therein strongly desirable.
