The UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine Program (the Program), founded in 2001, is a not for profit organization with offices and research facilities based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe.The Program’s main activities are conducting research, building capacity and providing advocacy for HIV/AIDS vaccine as well as molecular and epidemiological work toward HIV prevention. The Program is mainly funded by the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), USA but also receives funding from other donors. The Social Sciences Coordinator is responsible for social sciences aspects of research studies, community engagement and advocacy activities.• Research activities include designing social sciences research ideas for proposals as well as implementing them for funded grants.• Community engagement includes liaising with community members, Community Advisory Board (CAB), and Village Health Team (VHTs).• S/he will play a pivotal role in establishing and supporting a network of Community Health Mobilizers (CHMs) and ensure application of Good Participatory Practices in the development of the community engagement plan and the recruitment of research participants.• Advocacy involves dealing with stake holders in government and non-government circles, the media, and other relevant agencies for promotion of HIV vaccine research work and HIV prevention in general.Qualifications and experience:• A bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or Social Work and Social Administration with a Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Services Research, or Developmental Studies• At least 2 years experience in conducting health/medical or sociobehavioral research with qualitative data collection skills• Advocacy and good communication skills• Certification in Good Clinical Practices, Human Subjects Protection, and Good Participatory PracticesPlease send written cover letter along with copies of academic certificates, Curriculum Vitae, day-time telephone contact numbers and names of three professional referees should be sent to:Administration Manager, UVRI-IAVI HIV Vaccine Program Ltd, Uganda Virus Research Institute, Nsamizi Hill, Plot 51-59 Nakiwogo Road, Entebbe; P.O Box 49, Entebbe; Electronic copies to emails: information@iavi.or.ugDeadline for submission: Friday, May 23, 2014 at 5.00pmOnly shortlisted applicants will be contacted
