Sightsavers has an opportunity for an experienced Researcher with a strong interest in health and disability research to join its Policy & Strategic Programme Support team.

The post holder will work with our global research team and will be responsible for supporting research and other evidence generating activities within Sightsavers’ health, education and social inclusion programmes in in East, Central and South Africa region.

The ideal candidate will have a postgraduate degree in public health, epidemiology, statistics or a related discipline. You will have a good knowledge of different research methods including both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Candidates with a good knowledge and experience of research in Sub-Saharan Africa will be of particular interest. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to plan and supervise research projects are essential for this position, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. The postholder must be able to travel for up to 16 weeks a year.

Manager Education (1position); Central Region

Job Purpose:

Reporting directly to the Area Manager, the jobholder is responsible and accountable for the overall management and implementation of education programme, development, new partnership initiation, development and management, programme budgeting, budgetary and financial management, programme and financial reporting, human resources management, and administrative trouble shooting and support within the region. Technical programme management and implementation responsibilities include developing project plans, budgets and implementation plans, managing the accomplishment of targeted results and indicators, oversee programme budgets and accounts to ensure adherence to approved budget and work plans, undertaking routine budget monitoring and budget revisions, leading in the definition of M&E plans and indicators, monitoring and supervising sub recipient partners, preparing timely and high quality programme and financial reports, and taking initiatives and actions to ensure that programme implementation is in compliance with all Save the Children and donor requirements, rules and regulations. In addition the manager will ensure effective representation liaison between Save the Children and other INGOs, CSOs, Local Authorities and visiting donors and stakeholders at the local and regional level to promote extensive participation and complementarity of Save the Children programme and activities. The manager is also responsible for providing technical assistance and appropriate monitoring and evaluation in emergency responses.

Academic back ground, Experience & Person Specifications;

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in an education related field. Post Graduate training in Project Management, Community Development or a Master’s degree in any relevant field is an added advantage. Experience in education in emergencies is an added advantage.At least 5 years progressive experience in programme implementation, management and development and 3 of those years in a management position in an international development organization. Relevant experience supervising community based social development and education projects with International NGOs particularly those addressing children’s rights and those applying partnership approaches is desirable.

General specifications applicable to all positions;

Experience of working with local partners and District Local Government in Child Rights Governance, Health, Nutrition, Education, HIV/AIDS or Child Protection is an added advantage.Strong analytical skills and strategic planning abilities.Ability to establish and maintain conducive collegial relations and perform effectively as a member of a team.Willingness to travel and work in hard-to-reach areas, occasionally under strenuous conditions.Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and culturesAbility to intervene with crisis management or troubleshooting as necessary.Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coachingExcellent time management and planning capacity.Availability and willingness to work extra hours during times of humanitarian responses.

Various locations in Horn, East and Central Africa (DRC, Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan) & West Africa (Mali, Niger, Chad and Sierra Leone).
Contract type: Fixed Term - 3 months extendable, unaccompanied
Hours: Full-time

Salary (dependent on seniority of post):
C1: ?24,245 - ?30,853 net per annum pro rata to the contract length (Net = take home pay. Oxfam GB will meet the tax and social security liabilities of post holder in addition to net salary)
OR
C2: ?20,619 - ?27,642 net per annum pro rata to the contract length (Net = take home pay. Oxfam GB will meet the tax and social security liabilities of post holder in addition to net salary)

This is a preparedness measure for emergency response. At the moment these positions are not confirmed and are dependent on the outcome of asessments and funding. Key responsibilities
? Set up field offices in areas of field operations and set up requisite systems and procedures
? Be responsible for the preparation and monitoring of the emergency response budgets
? To work with Regional/Country funding teams on donor proposals, preparation of donor reports and budget revisions when necessary
? Ensure adherence to donor financial requirements
? To ensure proper authorisation of payments, maintenance of cash and bank books, preparation of monthly accounting returns.
? Manage the field finance and IT staff and ensure that work priorities are agreed and staff inducted to perform their roles adequately
? Ensure security of bank, cash, stock and capital assets
? Provide regular management information on financial status of the humanitarian programme
? Work with logistics staff to ensure logistics system agrees to the financial minimum standards
? To ensure the allocation of adequate financial resources at relevant programme sites including being responsible for cash management including top ups, cash transfers between sights etc.
? To review financial management capacity of non finance and programme staff as well as partners (as required) and finance training and support as required.
? To assist in the preparation of monthly salary statements including the timely deduction and deposit of taxes, insurance and other statutory liabilities.
? To ensure proper balance sheet management including that up-to-date records of staff loans and advances, floats, liabilities etc

Skills and competence
? Recognised accounting qualification
? At least three year's experience in finance, ideally with at least two years working in a supervisory position.
? Ability to lead in financial management in humanitarian context.
? Ability to develop and produce critical finance management tools to ensure excellent financial services to deliver the programme.
? Experience of managing donor schedules and production of donor reports.
? Proven knowledge and experience of computerised systems, preferably with accounting packages as well as advanced Excel skills.
? Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work on own and within various teams.
? Ability to manage competing tasks; ability to prioritise and produce high level output consistently.
? Critical awareness of gender equity principles and commitment and interest to developing these within Oxfam.
? Knowledge of institutional donor requirements; EC, DfID, UN partner agreements, SIDA etc.
? Excellent written and spoken French, Swahili and English essential

French-speaking Senior Project Geologist (iron ore) " Central Africa

Reporting directly to (and working inter-dependently with) the Exploration Manager, the Senior Project Geologist will be responsible for a range of aspects of the Company’s business interests in the country.

The immediate focus of the role is exploration and feasibility drilling programs in remote areas. Sampling, training and leadership of nationals in all aspects of exploration are core components of the role.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

· Manage large scale exploration projects from grass roots level to feasibility stages
· Effective leadership and professional development of the Company’s geological team in the country
· Plan and implement the Company’s exploration and resource development campaigns including:
o Geological and structural mapping,
o Air and ground geophysics
o Drilling
· Principal responsibility for the development, implementation and maintenance of suitable sampling QA/QC procedures
· Design and implementation of geotechnical data collection, storage and validation procedures
· Interpretation, modelling and reporting of data acquired during exploration and resource development programs
· Resource estimation (to “sign off” stage)
· Assisting with the compilation of internal and statutory reports
· Verbal and written English/French or French/English translation
· Cultivating and maintaining a comprehensive network of mining industry contacts to ensure opportunities for the Company’s involvement are identified and pursued

ESSENTIAL BACKGROUND

· Undergraduate degree (or higher) in geology
· More than eight years experience in exploration with the majority being in iron ore
· Drill program design, implementation and leadership experience (RC and diamond drilling)
· Creating, implementing and monitoring sample QAQC programs

The following criteria will be well regarded

· Bilingual, French/English; speaking and writing
· Recent experience with geological computing applications (databases, plotting)
· International experience, especially ‘emerging economy’ states and jungle environment

This is a FIFO role with a 6:2 roster. In country, you will be based in camp.

However, the consolidated emoluments shall be determined on the basis of the recommendations of the Selection Committee and approval of the competent authority thereof, as per rules. An eminent scholar with Ph.D. qualification(s) in the concerned / allied / relevant discipline and published work of high quality, actively engaged in research with evidence of published work with a minimum of 10 publications as books and / or research / policy papers. (ii) A minimum of ten years of teaching experience in university / college, and / or experience in research at the University / National level institutions / industries, including experience of guiding candidates for research at doctoral level. (iii) Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology –
mediated teaching learning process. (iv) A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance.

ii. Associate Professor :

Essential Qualification & Experience : (i)
Good academic record with a Ph.D. Degree in the concerned / allied / relevant disciplines. (ii) A Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed). (iii) A minimum of eight years of experience of teaching and / or research in an academic / research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a University, College or Accredited Research Institution / industry excluding the period of Ph.D. research with evidence of published work and a minimum of 5 publications as books and / or research / policy papers. (iv) Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and courses, and technology – mediated teaching learning process with evidence of having guided doctoral candidates and research students. (v) A minimum score as stipulated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS), set out in the UGC Regulation, 2010.

iii. Assistant Professor :
No of post : 01 post,
Essential Qualification & Experience : (i)
Good academic record as defined by the concerned university with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) at the Master’s Degree level in a relevant subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. (ii) Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET / SET. (iii) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-clauses (i) and (ii) to this Clause 3.3.1, candidates, who are, or have been awarded a Ph. D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of the minimum eligibility condition of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions in Universities / Colleges / Institutions. (iv) NET / SLET / SET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for which NET / SLET / SET is not conducted.
