Position Summary

The Uganda USAID fund has three components focusing on judiciary, media and civil society. In respect of the judiciary, the activity seeks to support interventions contributing to human rights jurisprudence through continuous professional development, legal aid for indigent women, youth and persons with disabilities, public outreach and public interest litigation. Regional peer exchange programs intended to share experiences on economic, social and cultural rights and regional mechanisms will also be supported. Within the civil society sector, the activity will support training of civil society activists in areas such as human rights monitoring and documentation, policy development, social marketing, communications and strategy development, platforms for engagement between civil society and the Government of Uganda, such as the human rights working group, portfolio committee and Universal Periodic Review. Media component will focus on media practitioners to enhance their knowledge and skills to better monitor, advocate against and report on abuses of public authority and human rights violations, which will contribute to greater accountability for state and non-state institutions.

The Internship position offers an opportunity to gain experience in program administration, program and activity implementation, activity development, USAID financial rules and regulations, and Freedom House program methodology. He/she will work collaboratively with the Rights and Rule of Law team and be given meaningful opportunities to add value to program initiatives and projects. He/she will demonstrate knowledge of human rights and a strong academic or professional interest and career aspirations related to the human rights or rule of law, civil society advocacy and freedom of expression. This unpaid internship position has two openings, is based in Kampala and reports to the Deputy Chief of Party.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have graduated or be enrolled in an accredited college or university in law, social studies or mass communicationStrong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writingInterest in human rights, rule of law, media, civil society, democracy and/or international development relationsBasic research and editing skills of reports, publications and studiesComputer literate, including proficiency with MS Office SuiteAbility to work independently and to collaborate with others and work as an effective team memberKnowledge of basic office administration and financial management preferred

Scope of Work – Monitoring & Evaluation Intern
 

To gain experience in how to work with M&E data, perform basic data analysis and how to review and produce reports for an International NGOReview M&E data and reports and prepare feedback on the data and reportsEnter all M&E data into spreadsheets and or databasesPrepare basic reports from the spreadsheets and databasesConduct alumni follow up and analyse alumni follow up data and produce reportsAny other duties that may be assignedBachelors Degree in Statistics, Public Health, Social Sciences or its equivalentExperienced in conducting statistical analysis using statistical software (SPSS preferable).Experienced in preparing and formatting graphs and tables using MS Office applications (Word, Excel & PowerPoint).Proficient in written communications.The ability to work independently and take initiative.Willingness to learn and collaborate with others.Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Excellent oral and written English language skills.Experience living/working in a culturally diverse environment.(2) cover letter demonstrating qualification and interest for the position

Learning Objective
To gain experience in 

a) researching and acquiring new business for an International NGO, andb) in the administration of a small grants program.

Overall Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Manager, Grants and Business Development, the Grants and Business Development Intern shall play a support role in both the acquisition of new business at RATN and the management of RATN’s grant-giving programs.

Support RATN resource mobilization efforts by monitoring industry trends and developments that affect RATN’s strategic activities and conducting research on organizations that have the potential to provide financial or in-kind support to RATN;Populate and maintain database of fundraising targets;Provide administrative support for the development of fundraising proposals;Ensure that comprehensive documentation is maintained and filed for each of RATN’s grant projects;Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Supervisor.Diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Marketing or its equivalent (candidates currently pursuing a degree will also be considered);Excellent research, data analysis/synthesis. ACTED has been active in Uganda since May of 2007, both in the northern region and Karamoja. In the North, ACTED supports the early recovery process with a specific focus on the needs of returning populations displaced by years of conflict. It also expands access, retention, equity and quality of primary education. In Karamoja, the focus is enhanced food security and resilience to disasters, especially droughts, as well as improving the primary education sector. In 2010, ACTED began laying the foundations for long term economic development by strengthening livelihoods, building community infrastructure, increasing access to markets, and focusing on disaster preparedness and drought early warning. In 2011, ACTED expands its disaster preparedness interventions, responds to early signs of a drought in North Pokot, consolidates DEWS, continues publishing timely and useful drought bulletins, pilots a SMS-based health reporting system in Karamoja, while continuing interventions focused on increasing market access, and capacity building of farmers and pastoralists to strengthen livelihoods. Description: Position Profile
The position of International FLAT Intern in Uganda will be 50-40% based in Kampala and 50-60% based in the cross border Karamoja-Pokot Area (KPA). While in Kampala, the FLAT intern will be detached to the Country Finance Department under the supervision of the CFM. In Karamoja-Pokot, the FLAT intern will provide support to the Area Coordinator on all FLAT functions depending on priorities identified by the Area Coordinator. As KPA contains 7 bases, the FLAT intern will be expected to undertake extensive travel to fulfill his/her duties.
Kampala Duties:
? Preparation/cross check of Allocation tables
? Preparation /cross check of Project Budget Follow Up
? Preparation /cross check of Monthly running cost
? Preparation/cross check of ATROCE: project cash requirements follow-up
? Cross-check PRATIC
? Cross-check of Cash request
? Cross-check of Contract Follow Up and HR TITANICS
? Support the country finance team as otherwise required by the Country Finance Manager.
? Support the capital HR officer in updating the national staff contracts? database, staff personal files and leave follow up. Karamoja-Pokot Duties Finance:
? Support the Area Finance team in BFU preparation.
? Support the Area Finance team to develop bi-monthly cash request and cash planning.
? Verify accountability of Cash for Work payments and support program and finance teams for cash for work planning and disbursements.
? Support to Drought Early Warning System team to undertake field and training payments
? Support the finance department in preparing the monthly cash payments schedule to ensure finance team make almost all field payments
? Support the finance department in preparing the monthly FLAT documentation package sent from the area to the capital office. Logistics
? Prepare with the Area Logistics teams the vehicle/motorcycle/generator fuel and repair follow up.
? Support to Area Logistics and Finance departments to close ?fuel loans?
? Verify monthly asset and stock updates.
? Ensure weekly vehicle planning is undertaken in each base and consolidated at area level
? Verify compliance with ACTED procurement procedures
? Support the logistics team in updating the order and delivery follow up
? Analyze vehicle/motorcycle/generator running costs.
? Verify vehicle logbooks.
? Field market surveys
? Procurement monitoring Administration/HR
? Verify compliance with ACTED HR procedures, notably in ensuring that personal personnel files are updated and originals transferred to the capital office.
? Support area Finance/Administration department in preparing the monthly payroll.
? Verify that premises leases are up to date.
Training/Process
? Documentation of area-specific FLAT compliance practices
? Hold orientation and refresher trainings for field teams on basic flat procedures. Requirements: Qualifications:
? Postgraduate diploma in Finance or International Relations
? Previous related work experience, preferably in the humanitarian field w/knowledge of finance and logistics

Basic Function and Scope of the Position

McAfee is seeking a highly motivated Email Marketing Intern to assist the North America Consumer Direct Marketing Retention team with the following initiatives:

- Execute Worldwide Email Marketing Campaigns for various internal departments via StrongMail (Email Service Provider).
- Perform reporting and analysis on Email Marketing Campaigns.
- Help plan, develop & implement Email Marketing Campaigns to meet established goals.

Experience

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

- Actively pursuing a college degree, expect to earn Bachelors Degree in Business or Marketing.
- Interest in Email Marketing.
- Basic to Intermediate skills in HTML and Excel.
- Willingness to learn.
- Excellent Communication Skills (listening, verbal, and written).
- Highly motivated self-starter who takes initiative with minimal supervision.
- Flexible team player who thrives in environments requiring ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task.
- Results Driven.
