About this Job:

Take a front seat role in the family planning and reproductive health revolution in Uganda. Marie Stopes Uganda (MSU) is the largest and fasting growing organization of its type in the country, preparing for a period of rapid expansion with support from the UK and US governments. We aim to contribute 15 points to Uganda’s contraceptive prevalence rate by 2015, saving and improving many thousands of Ugandan lives. MSU is a client-centred and results-oriented social enterprise. We deliver high quality, effective and sustainable family planning and reproductive health interventions across every district of Uganda. MSU has 25% of the market share in modern contraceptives and, in 2010, safely delivered 35,000 babies and contributed 4 points to Uganda’s contraceptive prevalence rate. Job Title: Marketing and Brands Officer

Reporting to the Senior Manager: Integrated marketing and communications.

The Marketing and Brand officer’s (MB) main role is to build MSU product branding to ensure that MSU brands such as Misoclear and Lifeguard are the preferred brands for health providers, traders and targeted population groups in Uganda. This will be achieved through implementing Marketing and Communication strategies for these products to ensure increased brand awareness and product sales. Key performance indicators will include; 1) successful strengthening of Misoclear as Uganda’s preferred brand for managing post-partum haemorrhage (PPH); 2) Establish Lifeguard as the preferred condom brand leading to increase in sales; 3) Establish an MSU SRH Hotline. This person is expected to have strong blend of marketing and brand promotions skills and experience.

This Marketing and Brands officer will be required to work productively with the Research, Monitoring & Evaluation, Operations, Social Marketing and Social Franchising teams to ensure that programme activities serve the indicators in MSU’s M&E framework.

Your role will be:

To create new MSU product brands; for example, working to make Misoclear Uganda’s preferred brand for prevention and treatment of PPH among pregnant women through successful implementation of the Marketing and Communication strategy. Key activities for Misoclear brand development will include:

Co-ordinate development of IEC and promotional materials for MisoclearDesign trade promotions for MisoclearManage BCC and mass media campaigns to promote Misoclear Work with the distributor to identify marketing support that is requiredAnd provide it on time within budgetsEnsure that all pharmacies are branded with Misoclear and the product is well displayed by developing point of sale materials for retailers and wholesale shopsCoordinate the development of IEC materials to increase knowledge on use among health providers and correct dosages among pharmacists.Monitor detailing and CME materials to ensure that correct messages are sent out to the targeted groupsDevelop trade promotions to ensure that stock reaches the bottom of the pyramid from the major distributor

To maintain and strengthen existing MSU product brands, for example maintaining Lifeguard as the Number one preferred condom brand, leading to increased Lifeguard sales. Key activities for Lifeguard brand strengthening include:

Design and implement a brand promotions campaign for LifeguardSponsor concerts and shows targeting sexually active peopleDevelop high end promotional materials for LifeguardConduct promotional events on specific days such as Valentines to maintain brand awarenessConduct trade and consumer promotions to encourage trials and increase sales

To set up and manage a new MSU SRH Hotline. Key activities will include:

Spearhead the operation of MSU HotlineConduct an assessment of available telephone hotlines in UgandaDevelop and implement operational guidelines for the hotlineDevelop a marketing strategy for the HotlineLobby MTN, UTL, WARID & AIRTEL for toll free linesDevelop hotline data capture system and toolsForm a hotline volunteer systemLiaise with different partners to strengthen the hotline referral databasesDraft the counselor’s code of conduct and standardization of responses to hotline Frequently Asked QuestionsSupervise and motivate a team of counselors.Requirement:

Qualifications:

Degree in Marketing, social sciences, public health or related disciplineDesirable: Masters or equivalent in Marketing, brand Management or relevant discipline

Experience:

Managed marketing and promotion of a successful brand or serviceManaged a successful brandExperience of working on hotline or a call centre related activitiesCo-ordinated production of work through an advertising agencyBackground in health product/ service branding and/or promotions (desirable)

Skills:

Proven excellent technical oral, written, and editing abilities; ability to present and write influentially for multiple audiencesWorld class marketing and brand promotion skillsAbility to work well with others in team environments; must be able to satisfy stakeholders; should be able to work in deadline driven/results orientated atmospheresStrong people management skillsAble to work as part of a team, building consensus and driving changeAble to think strategicallyGood planner
