About this Job:

The Medical Research Council / Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) Uganda Research Unit on AIDS based at Uganda Virus Research Institute Entebbe invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill positions available under a new project, the Health Systems and Chronic Diseases Project (HSCDP.) The MRC/UVRI Research Unit on AIDS is a bilateral multi-disciplinary research organisation funded by Medical Research Council (UK), DFID (UK) and other donor organisations. The successful candidates will contribute to a new research project seeking to generate data to inform policy on the care and prevention of chronic diseases (CDs). The main aim of the 1st year or initial phase of this project is to assess the current burden of CDs both at the population level and at the health services level in 2 districts in Uganda.

Position: Survey Team Leader (1) (Senior Medical Officer)

Duration: 1 year

Job purpose: The Survey Team Leader will ensure the smooth running of a population survey and a health facility survey.

Roles & Responsibilities

Liaise with community leaders to plan home visits.Ensure adequate supply of consumables in the fieldLiaise with laboratory to plan re-visits for participants whose lab results require this participant re-visitProvide on spot treatment during population surveyInterpret lab results and provide treatment where lab results dictate soWrite referrals for participants requiring thisSupervise other team members in the performance of the population surveyCheck questionnaires to ensure accurate record of data before leaving the fieldPerform interviews for heads of OPD and other health workersAdminister checklist/questionnaire for health facility surveyProvide intellectual input to conduct of the study, analysis of data, interpretation and write up of results.Requirement:

Education, Skills and Experience needed

MBChB degree.Post-graduate training in public health or epidemiology is desirable.3 or more years’ experience working in a research environmentExperience in the public healthcare sector an advantageGood written and oral communication skillsHow to apply:
