Business Consultant, Career Opportunity in Uganda, Jobs in Uganda,
The Great Generation is managing 21Biz: a consultancy project for community-based organisations in Uganda who are seeking to use a business approach to achieve their long sustainability and independence from international financial aid. Your business skills and experience can help to solve their problems and take them a step closer to successfully tackling poverty. The Ugandan Challenge - 24% of the population in Uganda lives on less than $2 per day. Many of the local organisations focused on tackling this issue are stranded by the unpredictability of international aid & donations, and are looking to take the matter in their own hands by starting social business ventures. They want to generate their own resources, and at the same time bring improved household income for their communities by creating employment opportunities. They lack skills, business know-how and market knowledge to build and sustain success: achieve significant results. But what they do have is motivation and a desire to change lives.4th - 19th July, 2015 - a group of senior professionals, graduates and business school students will design and run a project for five local organisations from Kampala, Uganda. These organisations come from the poorest areas in the city, in a country that is one of the poorest in the world, and work hard to look after the poorest and most vulnerable in the community. They focus on health, education, social support and income generation for individuals living under extreme conditions and affected by HIV/AIDSA, tuberculosis, malnutrition and other conditions caused by severe poverty. So what will the programme look to achieve? The need - In the community-based organisations, the development of a range of management skills are a priority. Precisely what is needed will depend on the individual organisation and will range from basic financial and data management through to identifying business opportunities and marketing strategies that can succeed in the particular context. Your job is to work conjointly with the organisation’s staff, to combine your business sense and their local knowledge. After the “game plan” has been defined collaboratively, you will help to implement it and to put steps in place to enable staff to take it forward once you have left.Training - You will be prepared for your two weeks in Uganda by a Project Leader from The Great Generation who is a former ground consultant, knows the Ugandan reality well and is a senior business leader. You might be required to attend preparatory sessions and to make an input to plans prior to the project. Please note that remote attendance is an option.Learning - One of the most important aspects of the project will be giving local people the inspiration and knowledge to add to what is already a high level of motivation; through workshops and training sessions the project will aim to create a shared learning experience, information exchange and skills training.On-the-Ground - After an initial briefing about culture and life in Uganda participants will head into the communities they will be working with.To kick things of there will be a three day forum with all participating local organizations to meet, learn, identify recurrent issues and define capacity priorities. The next few days will give opportunity to observe and engage with the work the organisations do, meet patients and members of the communities and thus the ultimate beneficiaries of the project. You are free to explore, visit or travel at the weekend.Monday of the second week will see the group working directly with the community-based organisations and the individuals they support, collaborating as a multi-skilled team to implement the capacity needed for each business to move forward: a week of learning, renewed motivation, new tools and skills, and equipped to build thriving livelihoods. The Great Generation is a social enterprise committed to solving the issues of communities living in tough economic and social conditions, and at the same time offering professionals the opportunity to develop themselves through the donation of their time and skills. You will have a chance to:· Work alongside and network with professionals from different countries and backgrounds· Employ your skills in an unexpected context and outside your comfort zone· Acquire new ones by practicing and interacting with the local staff: communication, flexibility and others· Get to know a emerging economy reality, and understand why large corporations are ever more interested in investing· Enjoy an intense personal development periodFuture success - Uganda needs more more skilled and prepared professionals to grow it's economy.
