Job Title: Project Accountant
Location: Kitgum
Reporting to: Project Manager

Reporting to the Project Manager the Project Accountant will provide technical financial management support to the project staff in Gulu and Kitgum Districts and ensure up-to-date is
required.

Description of duties

? Provide accurate and useful information (quantitative, narrative) in a consistent, timely, and cost effective manner
? Ensure timely disbursement and accountability of all project funds
? Oversee the financial and accounting activities at the station level in consultation with the respective project staff.
? Educate project staff about budgeting, other finance policies and guidelines, established internal controls systems for receipts and expenditures of funds and ensure adherence at -all times.
? Develop and maintain a filing system for all finance records at the station. are in line with approved budgets, other donor requirements and established guidelines, procedures, and cash flows.
? Ensure security, integrity and compliance in all bank transactions and timely bank reconciliations.
? Provide operational support to the Project Manager on expenditure management to include budgets.
* Prepare monthly progress reports to management on cash flows and periodic budgetary control statements to determine financial performance of the project.
* Facilitate and coordinate spot checks, verifications, and audits, readily avail documents and ensure prompt responses in consultation with the Project Manager and Finance Manager; follow-up and implement recommendations made by both internal and external auditors.
* Prepare annual operational budgets for projects by determining funds available for the budget, activities scheduled for the year and their cost and translating these to an operational budget in AMREF's format.
* Oversee the financial and accounting activities at field station level in consultation with the respective project staff and Finance Manager.
* Ensure that procedures for electronic data, storage, back-up and security are followed in compliance with AMREF's Financial Policy.
? Process, approve and code expenditure (claims, imprests, surrenders, field office returns and purchase requisitions) and internal recoveries in accordance with approved work plans and budgets.
* Produce, share and review monthly income and expenditure statements with project staff and work with project teams to resolve financial and accounting issues and queries.
* Perform any other duties assigned by the Managers.

Qualifications and experience
Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business Administration or related field with accounting bias; major in Accounts from a recognized University; Possession of a professional qualification (CPA, ACCA) is desirable Experience of at least 3 years with an International NGO
