Bulindi Zonal Agricultural Research & Development Institute (Bulindi ZARDI) is one of the Public Agricultural Research Institute established by the National Agricultural Research Act (2005).

The Institute is mandated to conduct applied and adaptive agricultural research in mid-western agro-ecological zone of Uganda under the policy guidance of National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO). The Director of Research, Bulindi ZARDI invites suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the following positions at the Institute located in Hoima District.

1.0. Job Ref. BUZARDI/01/2010
Animal Production Technician (1 post) -

Salary Scale UR 6
Reports to Animal Health Scientist

Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Collect and prepare laboratory samples for analysis of specimens and samples such as of spleen, brain, blood serum, heart, liver, lung, mucus, pus, urine, faeces, blood, milk and other animal fluids and tissues for isolation, analysis and labelling
b. Conducting standardized microbiological and biochemical tests and laboratory analyses to diagnose diseases and evaluate the quantity or quality of physical or chemical substances in animals and other products.
c. Attends to livestock and undertake activities such as spraying, vaccinations, deworming, dehorning, castration, tagging, insemination, diagnosis and treatment, weighing, milking and general maintenance of the paddock.
d. Prepares animal feeds and ensure right quality and quantity of feed is given to animals
e. Any other duty as a signed to by immediate supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:
a. Diploma/Higher National Diploma in Animal Production from recognized Institution .Possession of Bachelors degree will be an added advantage.
b. Two (2) years relevant experience

Key Competencies:
a) Knowledge of animals, insects and other micro-organisms, their tissues, cells, functions, interdependencies, and interactions with each other and the environment.
b) Proficiency in computer software applications and statistical packages

2. Job Ref: BUZARDI/02/2010
Soil Fertility Technician (1 post )
Salary
Scale UR 6
Reports to: Soil Scientist
Duties and Responsibilities
a. Preparing and maintaining laboratory materials, setting-up, adjusting, calibrating, cleaning, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory and fi eld equipment
b. Visiting farmers to identify soil fertility problems and indigenous traditional knowledge used to manage the problems in targeted areas
c. Collecting and analyzing soil specimens and plant samples
d. Monitor and observe experiments, collect and analyze data, recording production and test data for evaluation as well as preparing reports of results
e. Collect meteorological information and data covering weather parameters such as rain, temperature, humidity, moisture, solar radiation, evaporation, wind-peed and direction etc. Other related tasks include analysis of meteorological data to establish weather patterns.
f. Any other duty assigned by the immediate Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:
-Diploma/HND in Agriculture or equivalent qualifications from recognized institution. Possession of Bachelors degree (Hons) will be advantage

-Two (2) years relevant experience in the soil fertility analysis

Key Competencies:
Knowledge of soils and plants, their functions, interdependencies, and interactions with each other and the environment including impact on agricultural production
a. Proficiency in computer software applications and statistical packages

3.0. Ref: Job BUZARDI/03/2010
Agro forestry Technician (1 post)
Salary scale UR 6
Reports to Agro-forestry Specialist

Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Developing a field plan and preparing materials, measurement instruments and other supplies for undertaking field experiments
b. Participating in baseline surveys to determine needs and agro forestry production constraints as well as establish the impact of technology adoption
c. Collecting data, specimens and samples at various experimental plots
d. Participate in developing and delivering education and training programmes to farmers and other stakeholders including students on visits and attachments
e. Participate in agricultural exhibitions and other programmes designed for dissemination of research findings and technology transfer.
f. Undertaking routine maintenance of instruments, equipment and facilities including installation and calibration
g. Performing any other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.



Minimum Qualifications:
a. Diploma in Forestry or equivalent qualifications from recognized institution. Possession of Bachelors degree (Hons) in related fi eld will be an added advantage.
b. Two (2) years relevant experience

4. Job Ref. BUZARDI/04/2010
Crop Technician (1 post)
Salary Scale UR 6
Reports to Crop Scientist

Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Developing a field plan for conducting experiments on either the Institute’s research farm or on land belonging to farmers
b. Preparing materials such as seeds, fertilizer, measurement instruments and other supplies for undertaking field experiments
c. Preparing the experimental plot, planting seeds and labeling each experimental block according to the field plan
d. Collecting data, specimens and samples at various experimental plots
e. Monitoring the experimental plots for germination and sprouting as well as replanting, gap fi lling and tagging Application of fertilizer, inoculations, infestations and labeling according to fi eld specifi cations
f. Undertaking harvesting and post-harvesting activities including drying and packing
g. Participate in developing and delivering education and training programmes to farmers and other stakeholders including students on visits and attachments
h. And perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:
Diploma in Agriculture or equivalent qualifi cations from recognized Institution .Possession of a Bachelors degree(Hons ) in related fi eld will be an added advantage.

Two (2) years relevant working experience in reputable organization.

Knowledge of plants, insects and other micro-organisms, their tissues, cells, functions, interdependencies, and interactions with each other and the environment.

5. Job Ref BUZARDI//2010
Assistant Systems Administrator / ICT Specialist (1 Post)
Salary scale U5R(ii)
Reports to Director

Key Responsibilities
1. Provide day to day ICT support and maintenance of BuZARDI Key ICT infrastructure
2. Manage ICT and computer systems in the institute.
3. Support the maintenance of Buzardi Website /Portal
4. Maintain current and accurate inventory of technology hardware, software and Resources
5. Develop and implement policies and policies and procedures for computer systems operations
6. Perform regular back up of BuZARDI Data bases and information ensuring that back up and recovery Procedures and plan are in Place.

Minimum Qualification:
-Bachelors Degree (Hons) in Computer science or its equivalent from recognized Institution.
-Possession of postgraduate Qualification and certifications like CCNA, MCP, MCSE is added advantage.

Minimum experience:
-Two (2) years hands experience in maintenance and management of ICT Operation in a reputable Organization.

6 Job Ref. BUZARDI/05/2010
Motor-Vehicle Driver (1Post)
Salary Scale UR 7

Duties and Responsibilities:
a. Undertaking routine and preventive maintenance of motor vehicle by checking and topping-up the level of petrol, oil, water, battery electrodes and tyre pressure before operating the vehicle.

b. Regularly cleaning and polishing the vehicle, changing tyres as well as making minor repairs or adjustments.
c. Driving motor vehicle (car and van) to transport directors, staff, clients and others to designated locations.
d. Maintaining records of the motor vehicle’s daily activity showing journey, mileage, petrol, oil and signature of authorizing officer to account for all the journeys made
e. Requisitioning for petrol, lubricants and spare parts and maintaining a record accounting for the same.

Minimum Qualifications:
a. Valid Digital Driving Permit (Class B and DL)
b. Uganda Certifi cate of Education with at least a pass in English Language
c. At least 3 years driving experience.

Employment terms for all Posts
Successful candidates will be employed on four years contract renewable on satisfactory performance. Age: candidates should not be above 45 years of age.
