We provide these young leaders with the tools to remain connected after their fellowship year finishes, deepening their ability to enact change through heightened skills and strong partnerships. We currently place fellows in Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia.Uganda Development and Health Associates (UDHA) is a service provision organization dedicated to serving the poor and vulnerable members of Ugandan society. UDHA uses a multi-sector and professional approach with strong community participation and ownership for the enhancement of health, rights and development initiatives. UDHA community-based interventions focus on HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, advocacy, and youth.Job Summary: The Advocacy and Communications Fellow will spearhead, guide, and implement advocacy activities for UDHA and targeted communities aimed at both communities and government.Key Duties and Responsibilities:  Build and maintain working relationships with influential organizations and networks to advocate for desired policy changeDevelop materials describing key advocacy issues for institutional and public audiencesSupport in formulation of advocacy proposals for fundingActively facilitate advocacy events working with a wide range of stakeholdersManage advocacy components of all projects in the organizationRepresent the organization in advocacy forums at local and national levelPrepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports of advocacy activities that contribute to the accomplishment of UDHA’s goalsQualifications, Skills and Experience:  The GHC fellow should have some experience and understanding of local and national policy change processesPrior experience in public relations and partnership managementSignificant experience with proposal development and writing technical reportsAbility to work in rural settingsExcellent analytical and decision-making skillsRelevant experience in communications, advocacy and/or marketingPossess the ability to work in a team environment with self-sufficiency and self-motivationStrong interpersonal skills coupled with excellent communication skills: verbal, written, listening, presentation and facilitationAbility to multi-task: flexible and capable of working under pressure and tight deadlines with demonstrated ability to prioritize across multiple projects and relationshipsAbility to work under pressureJob Terms and Conditions: Fellows will be provided with housing, health insurance and a living stipend of $550/month. Additionally, fellows will receive an award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year. Flights to and from the placement site and all other costs associated with GHC programming are included, including $600 in professional development funds.
