The Uganda Human Rights Commission is an Institution established under the Provisions of Article 51 (1) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, its legal mandate, functions and Powers are also enshrined in the UHRC Act of 1997. The main function of the Commission is to protect and promote Human Rights, Civic Obligations, Constitutionalism and respect for the rule of law.
The Commission would like to strengthen its human resources capacity by recruiting dynamic and self motivated individuals to complement its current staff in the implementation of its mandate as a national Human Rights institution.
Applications are invited for filling the following positions which will be based in Masaka Regional Office and one post of Assistant Administrator- Fort Portal Regional Office,
The success candidate will be appointed for a five year contract and is subject to a six months probation period.
Position: Human Rights Officer-Investigations

Salary Scale: HR-OS-5
Age: 22 years and above
Main Purpose of the Job:
The HRO will be responsible to the Regional Human Rights Officer for effective and efficient implementation of activities of human rights protection and promotion in the region through the investigation function.
Minimum Qualifications:
(a) Applicants must be Uganda citizens holding a Bachelors Degree in any of the following areas; Social Work and Social Administration, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Bachelor of Arts (Arts, Education)
(b) Applicants should be able to demonstrate good communication, report writing and sensitization skills

(c) Experience in Human Rights work will be an added advantage.
(d) Applicants in possession of good computer application skills in Ms-Office with good moral character and integrity will have an added advantage.
(e) Volunteers who have served in the Commission for not less than six months are encouraged to apply.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible to the Regional Human Rights Officer for performing the following duties.
(a) Facilitating and carrying out systematic investigations of human rights violations in the region.
(b) Participation in mediation and counseling of complainants
(c) Receiving Complaints and attending to Complainants, (d ) Providing expertise in steering the investigation function in the region, (e) Participation in field activities outside the office such as inspection and monitoring visits. (0) Preparing progress reports of activities taking place in the region, (g) Preparing investigation reports on complaints that have been conclusively investigated, (h) Participation in training workshops organized at the regional Office. (1) Any other official duties assigned by the RHRO or the commission.
