Head Of Business Development - Air
To identify and develop opportunities for growing new/expanding business in support of the business plan and strategy. To identify and mitigate the associated risks and gaining appropriate Board approvals to lead strategy development.
Special Features:
The job holder will have responsibility for developing and agreeing the budget; be accountable for delivery against budget, P & L and output performance and to report and forecast against budget in accordance with Company corporate governance.
Key outputs/deliverables will be:
- Delivery of the MFTS and FSTA programmes to ensure all targets are met
- Meet supply chain targets
- Maximise current and potential partnering relationships with customers
- Develops resource and development plans for the team
- Managing the function in line with the Group's corporate governance policies, processes and procedures including those relating to Health and Safety
Main Accountabilities:
- Lead the MFTS and FSTA operational delivery teams
- Lead the key interfaces with customers and suppliers to ensure contract delivery
- Identify and implement strategies to improve operational delivery
- Participate in monthly reviews of the Air business unit and ensure business risks are identified, reported and addressed
Additional accountabilities:
- Support Business Development and Major Bids with appropriate resource
- Management of internal and external relationships to ensure contract goals are met
- Identify opportunities to expand contract scope with existing customers
- Volume - High programme workload for the next 25 years, contributing to business growth
- Quality - High quality essential for reputation, customer trust and reduced long term programme risk to the Company
- Timelines - Strongly driven by MFTS and FSTA programme timelines
- Decision Making - Mix of strategic and tactical decision making in the development of the programmes
- Participate fully as a member of the Air Senior Management Team
- Effectively manage that performance of and encourage the development of all direct reports
Person Specification
Knowledge, Qualification and Experience:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant industry experience
- Has extensive broad base Senior Management experience of working with public or private commercial organisations
- Expert understanding of the defence air industry, both in the UK and abroad
- Sound understanding of Partnering and Alliancing between Government, private industry
- Extensive experience of managing/balancing diverse stakeholder priorities and agendas
- Business and supply chain management experience
- Project Management - PRINCE 2 or equivalent is desirable
