CDC Project Coordinator Jobs at International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs


Organisation: International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment ProgramsFunding Source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)The International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs will work in partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), ICAP to conduct a Population-based HIV Impact Assessments (PHIAs) in specific PEPFAR-supported countries. Each PHIA will define the status of the national HIV epidemic, guide global and local allocation of funding and resources based on evidence, and integrate capacity building of country stakeholders in the design, conduct, analysis, and use of PHIAs.Job Summary: The Project Coordinator, Uganda PHIA Project will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a national population-level HIV impact assessment (PHIA) in Uganda. The Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating all of the PHIA’s day-to-day activities in country, coordinate local institutional review board reviews and approvals, coordinate and support the field team, oversee the activities of sub-contractors, and support the overall implementation of the PHIA. The incumbent will also actively support the training of staff on the study protocol, procedures, policies, relevant regulations and also ensure that the study protocol, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and other relevant policies and regulations are being followed. The Project Coordinator will report study site progress and maintain study regulatory files. Kenya: TRAINING ENTREPRENEURSHIP TRAINERS AND ESTABLISHING EMPLOYMENT ADVISORY SERVICES CENTER IN MOGADISHU

The project has a target of reaching 400 disadvantaged youth (40% females) through provision of employable skills training, linked with entrepreneurship training. The skills training are being conducted through EBTVET centers in Mogadishu. To enhance the graduates’ entry into self-employment, entrepreneurship will be taught. The entrepreneurship training is meant to train the trainees on how to generate business ideas, marketing, small business management, financial literacy, resource mobilization and business planning among others.

To improve on the employability of TVET graduates, it is important to avail information on employment opportunities and the emerging skills in the market. This can be done through an Employment Advisory Services (EAS) center to be set up in a TVET Center. The EAS center will train the graduates on “soft skills” which will emphasis on personal qualities, work habits and attitudes which make someone a good employee. The Center will also provide career guidance and counseling and give advice to youth and adult planning to venture in self-employment.

The Center's goal is to develop and promote operational and policy responses to protect and strengthen the livelihoods of people living in crisis effected and marginalized communities, impacted by violence, malnutrition or loss of assets. We work globally to understand the causes and effects of marginalization, famine, conflict, and forced displacement and with national and international organizations to bring about institutional changes that enhance effective policy reform and promote best practice.

In November 2010 the ODI, Tufts/FIC, Save the Children and The Center for Poverty Analysis (the consortium) became the winning bid for the DFID Research Programme Consortium (RPC) on Livelihoods in Fragile States (hereafter Secure Livelihoods Research Consortium / SLRC). 

The position is designed to support research design, carry out field based research, as assist with analysis, write-up and presentation of findings, as well as represent the SLRC Uganda project in meetings within Uganda and the region, as requested by Dr. Mazurana.  This Kampala based position requires working closely with Dr. Mazurana, Dr. Maxwell and other lead consultants as requested by Mazurana and Maxwell, and FIC Administrative and Finance Director and administration support team.  The funding for this near full time position (60% time) is for one year with a possible extension in future years.

A desire to work as a member of a team of academics and practitioners which embraces multidisciplinary approaches and methods; ability to interact with donor agencies, research partners, and field partners; excellent organization skills; and ability to relate effectively to people across national and cultural boundaries. Experience with N-Vivo (or similar programs), SPSS, and STATA is a plus.
