Job Title:         Mobile Counsellor
Duration of Contract:  2 years contingent to donor fundingOrganisation: Marie Stopes Uganda (MSU)
For over 20 years, Marie Stopes Uganda (MSU) has been working to provide voluntary family planning (FP) services to thousands of men and women across the country. MSU is the largest, most specialized private FP and reproductive health (RH) organization working in every district of Uganda with approximately 30% of modern contraceptive market share. 90% of our clients are women living in rural and underserved areas where health services, particularly family planning are not readily available. MSU is a key implementing partner of the Ministry of Health, particularly the division of Reproductive Health at Central, Regional and District levels. MSU receives funding from USAID, UKaid, UNFPA, the Dutch Government, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as well as private foundations.The jobholder's main role will be to safely and efficiently provide HCT services to clients and ride a three wheeled vehicle within  Kampala.  This specific role is part of the Link Up Team that is working to provide integrated family planning and HIV services to youth and high risk groups such as young people living with HIV and sex workers. Therefore the post holder should hold a positive attitude towards serving these demographics and be exceptionally resilient and open.Key Roles and Responsibilities·             Provide comprehensive client counselling on reproductive health and other health matters.·             Taking necessary steps to ensure that all outreach clients are treated with sensitivity, respect, and consideration.·             Effectively manage and resolve complaints raised by clients and promptly escalate difficult issues to the Outreach Team Leader.·             Support the clinical staff in imparting general Family Planning Information to clients and exercising the vocal local technique.·             Participate in community sensitisation and mobilisation·             Support the Service Provider on outreach by unloading the vehicle.·             Ensure the vehicle is properly loaded with outreach equipment and ready to leave at 9 a.m. at the latest for outreach.·             Keep all logbooks up-to-date and copies submitted monthly to the Team Leader to forward to Support Office.·             Ensure third party insurance or registration stickers are valid at all times,·             Alert Support Office in writing, via the Team Leader, at least 4 weeks before expiry of insurance or registration.·             Submit monthly vehicle reports to Support Office as per finance department protocols.·             Keep the MSU motor vehicle interior and exterior clean at all times.·             Ensure that the vehicle receives the correct maintenance in a timely fashion to prevent avoidable breakdown, and to maximise vehicle performance.·             On parking the MSU Vehicle after working hours, ensure the keys are handed over to the Team Leader or another member of staff, designated by the Team Leader·             Carefully monitor fuel and oil consumption of the vehicle, taking steps that records are accurate and no supplies are diverted·             Maintain appropriate driving skills and experience for riding in rough terrains.  The Mobile Counsellor  must immediately notify the Team Leader of any health complications that could affect his / her ability to conduct his/ her work safely (e.g. deteriorating eyesight, epileptic fits)·             Ride in a responsible way, showing care and consideration for other road users, including pedestrians and ensuring risks to all vehicles under the Mobile Counsellor's control are minimised·             Minimum of Certificate in Counselling or  Medical Education·             Medical background and training in Family Planning and HCT·             Valid driver's license for both Motorcycle and cars with at least three years driving experience·             Experience riding on rough terrains·             Excellent communication skills·             Ability to analyse and pay attention to detail·             Able to work with minimum supervision.·             Ability to work independently in a busy environment.·             Proficiency in Luganda, Swahili and English.·             Flexibility and willingness to work long hours.·             Good working knowledge of Microsoft office applications Please send a CV and Cover letter by email to jobs.applications@mariestopes.or.ug / jobs@mariestopes.or.ug or post to the Senior Manager People and Development  Marie Stopes, Plot 1020, Kisugu-Muyenga, P.O.
