Senior Geologist Career Job at Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL)

Organisation: Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL)Reports to: Civil Engineering SpecialistUganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL), a limited liability company incorporated in March 2001 with the Head Office located in Jinja, is one of the UEB successor companies. UEGCL’s key role is to manage the efficient production of electricity power through power plant development and concession monitoring. UEGCL is the implementing agency for the development of 2 power projects namely, the 600MW Karuma Hydro Power Project (HPP) and the 183MW Isimba Hydro Power Project (HPP).Karuma HPP is a Public Project being developed by the Government of the Republic of Uganda through a bilateral agreement with The People’s Republic of China. Sinohydro Corporation Limited was contracted as the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project.Isimba HPP is a Public Project set to be developed by the Government of the Republic of Uganda through a bilateral agreement with the People’s Republic of China. China International Water and Electric Corporation is the EPC contractor for the project.Job Summary: The Senior Geologist will be mainly responsible for geological site works. Site activities will be key with monitoring site investigations and construction making up a large portion of the duties. Candidates should show good experience in engineering geology and be able to discuss technical features with the Project teams.Key Duties and Responsibilities:  Monitor construction activities including the review and classification of subgrade, in-situ testing, observation and testing of various construction methods.Manage geotechnical field exploration including test borings, rock coring, test pits, cone penetration testing, augers, and other methods.Report in writing on site investigations, adverse geological conditions, delays and quality issues relating to construction operations.Actively participate in the inspection of equipment and materials and witnessing field tests.Identify and advise on any unsafe or incorrect practices and escalate issues where necessary.Perform any other duties as required. Qualifications, Skills & Experience:The prospective UEGCL employee should possess a Bachelor’s degree in geology or engineering with a concentration in geotechnics from a recognised university At least ten years’ experience of geological and geotechnical investigations of sites in varied locations and laboratory testing for civil engineering purposes including deep foundations, excavations and major earthworks and dams.Working knowledge and experience of site-based EHS processes and procedures/regulations.Computer literacy skills Possess the ability to use engineering geological software would be an advantage.Possession of a valid driving permit would be an added advantage.Membership to a professional body will be an added advantageAll applicants should send their applications with copies of academic testimonials / certificates and a detailed CV indicating two professional referees and their full addresses to: Manager, Finance and Administration, Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd, 3rd floor, UEDCL Tower Plot 37 Nakasero Road P.O.
