MAP offers its services to all people, regardless of their religion, gender, race, nationality or ethnic background.Job Summary: The Agronomist will be responsible for the facilitation of the improvement on the process of growing farm crops and help farmers use their land more effectively and suggest methods to increase yields. Focus on checking soil quality against the crops that will be planted in the Project area. Work with small holder farmers in order to develop better farming conditions through improved planting areas.Key Duties and Responsibilities:  Participate in projects and experiments in the field of agronomy.Discus the orientation and technical demands of agronomic activities and assumes responsibility for the technical aspects in the execution of the same.Carry out a variety of specialized technical tasks such as assessing field site characteristics and selecting field locations, and determining requirements for fertilizers and pesticides.Participate in the production, harvest, storage of seeds and crops.Organize schedule of land and equipment use. Assess needs and coordinates provision of equipment and materials.Offer technical guidance and extension support concerning best agronomic methodsOrganize, prepare and facilitate trainings, as required, to selected community members on specific sustainable and environmentally appropriate agronomic techniquesWork closely with the District extension officers; provide support and mentoring post-training to ensure knowledge is appropriately cascaded to the project sub clusters, and regularly monitoring same in keeping with project requirements throughout the project lifetime.Offer appropriate extension services in crop production and management, focusing on diversification and intensification of agricultural production, and promoting integration into value chain activities.Take part in designing, planning, and implementing innovative approaches to agricultural and value chain activities.Promote best practice technologies, appropriate for the environments of identified project livelihood zones, to encourage production of agricultural products having potential to increase household incomeWork closely with M&E officer, develop and administer pre- and post- knowledge questionnaires to measure impact of knowledge sharing, and other materials related to project training and advocacy.Participate in project trainings, surveys, monitoring exercises, and donor, country and head office visits, as required.Compile clear and accurate reports on project trainings and other activities, as required.Participate in project planning and review meetings, as required.Support the M&E Officer in preparing weekly internal progress reports and quarterly/annual donor reports.Extract lesson learning from project implementation, and compile and share case studies with the organization and other project stakeholders as required.Offer regular and timely communication to supervisor and field colleagues on progress during project implementation, highlighting successes; delays; risks; challenges; irregularities and opportunities encountered during your work.Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  The applicants must hold a B.Sc. in Agronomy or a related area, such as soil conservation, agriculture education, or general agriculturePast experience in a related fieldPast exposure and experience in baseline data collection using GIS toolsPosses a background in cereals, pulses or horticultural promotion projectsExcellent interpersonal skills, proven networking, team-building, organizational and communication skillsComputer literacy skills are essential.All qualified and interested applicants must send an updated resume/CV, cover letter, statement of faith, previous salary history, minimum salary requirements, three professional references (e-mail address and phone number to include Supervisors), and a date of availability to mapuganda@map.org.
