Sweet Potato Breeder/Project Leader


The

International Potato Center (CIP) is a not-for-profit international

agricultural research organization supported by the Consultative Group on

International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) with a global mandate to conduct

research on genetic resources of potatoes, sweet potato, and other Andean roots

and tubers, crop genetic enhancement and improvement, integrated crop

management and sustainable management of natural resources.


Job Summary:  The Research Technician will work on the

Genomic Tools for Sweet potato Improvement Project (GTSPI).


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
In charge of screen house management, conduct

laboratory and field experiments


·        
Collect, analyze and interpret research trial data


·        
Write reports and related documents.


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The applicant should hold a BSc in Agriculture or

Biological Sciences or Genetics or Molecular breeding with hands on experience

in tissue culture, screen house management, NIRS, and at least five years’

experience gained from a reputable research institution or university


·        
Excellent skills in experimental designs, data

collection, analysis, interpretation and report writing


·        
Working knowledge and practical background on root

and tuber crops will be an advantage.


·        
Excellent oral, written communications, and problem

solving ability;


·        
Excellent computer skills


·        
Accuracy and attention to detail;


·        
Cross cultural sensitivity.


·        
Strong e-mail communication skills, ability to write

in a manner sensitive to cultural differences, and provide clarity to staff

where English is not the primary working language of the project


·        
Ability to be a team player in a busy environment,

often with tight deadlines


·        
Be a Ugandan citizen.
