The National
Forestry Authority (NFA) is a Government agency established under the National
Forestry and Tree Planting Act, 2003 as a corporate body responsible for
sustainable development and management of Central Forest Reserves (CFRs) and
provision of technical support to stakeholders in the forest sub-sector.
Job Summary: The Prosecutor
performs tasks related to the provision of legal advisory and prosecution
services to the NFA. Also, the job involves legal sensitization for staff,
local communities and NFA stakeholders.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·
The incumbent will be perusing and sanctioning Criminal
files before taken to court
·
Appearing and prosecuting offenders in Courts of Law
·
Guiding the law enforcement officers on law and how
to handle suspects during arrest
·
Directing/guiding investigations with a view to
obtain cogent evidence before a file is sanctioned.
·
Advising law enforcement officers on how to preserve
and protect exhibits before the case is concluded.
·
At all times, work closely with the office of DPP in
the execution of your duties.
·
Responsible for the provision of legal advice
relating to Criminal Law and other environmental legislations.
·
Sensitize the public on the law relating to forestry
in the country.
·
Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly performance
reports to the supervisor.
·
Carry out legal research and provide legal opinion
to NFA staff.
·
Appear and defend NFA in Civil cases assigned to you
in your area of jurisdiction.
·
Draft contracts and MOUs between NFA and its clients
·
Perform any other assignment given by the
ED/Supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
·
The applicant should preferably hold an Honors
Degree in Law from a recognized university.
·
Additional post graduate diploma in Legal practice
from Law Development Centre.
·
At least three years’ experience practicing in a
reputable firm or in a similar position in a reputable organization.
·
The applicant must be an advocate of the high court.
·
Hold a valid practicing certificate.
·
Excellent ability to network with relevant judicial.
