About STRYDE Project:
TechnoServe is implementing the second phase of Strengthening Rural Youth Development through Enterprise Program (STRYDE), a regional youth enterprise development program designed to enable 48,000 rural youth aged 18 to 30 in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania, have a more successful transition into economically independent adulthood, increasing their opportunity, ability and motivation to engage in income-generating activities. The overall goal of the program is to sustainably improve the livelihoods of rural youth and their households, ultimately helping them to become active contributors and financially independent members of society.
Job Summary: The Team Leader will provide leadership in implementation of the STRYDE program in the Northern Region – covering 4 districts of Amuru, Arua, Gulu and Lira and ensure that the quality of training and aftercare activities in the region are of the expected high quality and standard. The incumbent will be responsible for timely and effective implementation of project activities and achievement of a portion of the project’s goal to train 13,000 rural youth to increase their productive economic engagement in the region.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Regional Coordination & Personnel Management:
· Manage and support a team of 2 (two) Lead Business Advisers (LBAs)
· Oversee effective work planning and supervision of the training and aftercare activities in the region
· Take overall leadership in development of a clear strategy and delivery of effective aftercare support to the youth in each cohort, with special emphasis on agriculture and related businesses
· Work in liaison with program staff to identify technical assistance needs at the regional youth level and support the LBAs to deliver effective business advisory support to the youths’ businesses in the region
· Provide structured support to business development service providers and effective linkage of growing youth businesses to off-takers and other large and successful businesses within and outside the program operational area
· Work closely with the LBAs prepare and send accurate and timely weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports to the Program Manager for client businesses supported in the North.
· Steer the LBAs in the coordination and implementation of aftercare activities with project beneficiaries, including; recruitment and support of BPC judges, mentors, consultants and other service providers
· Actively monitor the quality of services provided to youth by BDS providers, financiers and other partners in the course of delivering aftercare in the region
· Regularly monitor the businesses or business plans of high performing youth businesses in the region to ensure adequate support services are available and the business continues to be viable
· Support the Country Partnership Manager (CPM) in supervising the activities of partner VTIs in the Region whenever necessary
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· The ideal candidate should preferably hold a degree in any of the following areas: Business, Commerce, Economics, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Business Management or any related studies
· At least four years’ relevant experience in business advisory, entrepreneurship, youth programming and/or agricultural value chain programs
· Significant experience in managing field teams working remotely is required
· Ability to solve problems and generate innovative solutions in work situations
· Proven ability to work independently required
· Willingness to be based in the region with extensive travel across all the program areas.
· Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
· Ability to effectively leverage the dynamics of creative teams.
· Show commitment to innovation, learning, and timely results.
· Good problem solving skills
