Project Name: USAID/SPRING Project John Snow, Inc. is a leader in improving the health of individuals and communities by providing high-quality technical and managerial assistance to public health programs worldwide. JSI has implemented projects in 104 countries, and currently operates from eight U.S. and 81 international offices for the past 30 years.JSI, together with other development partners is implementing the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Strengthening Partnerships, Results and Innovations in Nutrition Globally (SPRING) project. SPRING Uganda works in the Southwest and East - Central regions of Uganda with a focus on strengthening the treatment and preventive nutrition services in health facilities, and overseeing the implementation of specific tasks that strengthen food fortification efforts nationally.Job Summary: The Drivers will transport SPRING personnel to various destinations using the project vehicle in a safe and courteous manner. The Driver is responsible for the safe operation of the assigned vehicle in the performance of various types of duties.Key Duties and Responsibilities:  Drive SPRING Staff, consultants or other approved passengers in assigned project vehicle in a safe and courteous manner ensuring that seat belts are worn by the passenger and driver whenever the vehicle is moving.Assure appropriate use of the assigned vehicle and maintain vehicle log book daily by noting date, destination, mileage, departure and arrival times of each trip and submit reports to the Administrative Officer.Note vehicle mileage on the front of every fuel receipt and submit other maintenance related receipts appropriatelyMake sure there is safe operating status of the assigned vehicle by regularly inspecting the required fluid levels, lights, tire conditions and overall condition of the vehicle.Take the vehicles in for manufacturer recommended maintenance at a recommended dealer or for repair as required.Ensure that maintenance records are kept properly and used to inform supervisor of any vehicle needs on a timely basis.Perform appropriate/ light preventive maintenance on the vehicle.Ensure that the assigned vehicle is clean at all times (interior and exterior).Comply and adhere to SPRING policies and procedures related to vehicle use.Ensure that project materials and equipment prepared for project activities in different locations are organized and transported in a safe mannerQuickly report accidents or other infractions of the law, SPRING Procedure or other incidents related to the vehicle to the Administration Officer immediately.Ensure all licenses and documents relating to the vehicle is renewed on time and as required.Qualifications, Skills and Experience:  The Drivers should possess a clean valid Ugandan Driving License and a certificate of good conduct are a condition for employment.A minimum of five or more years’ driving experience in a similar position and maintaining vehicles and logbooks.Hold O’ level education at least with a C grade.Five or more years driving experience with an NGO, Foreign Embassy, or UN Agency.Defensive driving training or other advanced driver training certifications preferred.Extensive knowledge of the Ugandan Road Codes; and the geographical layout of Kampala and Mbarara, as well as generally knowing their way around Uganda, particularly the Southwestern regionGood knowledge of proper, safe operation of vehicles especially 4X4 vehicles.Possess the ability to identify and assess mechanical problems, perform light preventive maintenance and ensure proper maintenance of vehicles.Ability to operate assigned vehicle in a safe, courteous manner.Ability to develop and maintain accurate records.All candidates should send their applications to the following address or hand deliver to: The Country Manager SPRING UgandaBlock 01 Plot 295, Kacence, Kaciika,Mbarara - Uganda Tel +256(486) 660012OR Plot 36/37A, Martyrs Way, Ntinda, Kampala Tel: 256750001253 - Kampala - Uganda Or by e-mail on jobs@spring-nutrition.orgDeadline: Monday 6th October 2014 5.00PM
