Legal Officer


The Uganda Law

Reform Commission is established under Article 248(1) of the Constitution of

the Republic of Uganda. Its primary mandate is to study and keep under constant

review the Acts and all other laws comprising the laws of Uganda with a view to

making recommendations for their systematic improvement, development,

modernisation and reform.


Key Duties and Responsibilities: 


·        
The incumbent will be carrying out revision and

simplification of laws;


·        
Ensuring efficient and effective revision,

integration, unification and consolidation of laws;


·        
In charge of planning and preparing programs for

integration, unification, simplification of laws, translation of laws and

consolidation of laws.


·        
Responsible for identifying laws that require

revision, simplification and translation;


·        
Coordinating translation of laws;


·        
Studying court judgments and ascertaining their

effect on legislation;


·        
Mentoring, supervising and appraising subordinate

staff;


·        
Performing any other activities that may be assigned

by the Principal Legal Officer.


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 


·        
The applicants should be Ugandans who hold an Honour’s

Degree in law from a recognized university and a post graduate diploma in legal

practice;


·        
At least three years of relevant working experience

at the level of legal officer in government or equivalent experience from a

reputable organisation;


·        
Computer literacy skills.


·        
Additional training in legislative drafting is

desirable.


·        
Working knowledge of project planning and management

is an added advantage.


·        
Possession of relevant post-graduate training will

be an added advantage.


·        
Age: Above 25 years
