International Organization for Migration (IOM) Jobs - Clinical Nurse

The resettlement programme has been and continues to be a fundamental pillar of the Organization’s work arranging organized international transfer of refugees and other migrants which allow IOM to provide safe and orderly movement of persons around the world. From discrete ad hoc rescue operations of extremely vulnerable individuals to massive evacuations of populations at risk, IOM resettlement operations exemplify the Organization’s competence, care and commitment toward migrants and are concrete examples of IOM’s professional operational excellence. Job Summary: The IOM Clinical Nurse will assist in the processing of migration health assessment of migrants and implementation of expanded vaccination programme for refugees destined to USA. Key Duties and Responsibilities:  Coordinates medical follow ups in the refugee settlements with IOM Medical Officers;Conducts vaccination for migrants as prescribed by the IOM Medical Officers, evaluates applicants for contraindications, updates vaccination data, administer subsequent doses of vaccines in the field, maintains cold chain and ensures safekeeping of the vaccines, and submit vaccines order requests in a timely manner;Carry out identity check for each migrant before blood collection, urine and sputum specimen collections, and x-ray procedures;Coordinates and liaises with x-ray departments, laboratory units, clinics and referral hospitals and sets appointments for various follow ups;Informs IOM Medical Officers when the migrant has completed treatment(s) prescribed, and ensures that required reports are provided to the appropriate parties as well as coordinating and maintaining precise tracking records of all medical reviews;Work in liaison with IOM Medical Officers about fitness to travel of migrants and conduct pre departure checks in the field, de-worming and administering antimalarial treatments when required. Reports of same must be provided to the IOM Medical Officer in an accurate and timely manner;Compile and prepares monthly reports for all cases cleared to travel and those on medical hold with projected dates of clearance;Initiates anti -TB treatment for eligible migrants as per the panel physician recommendation in the field, provide directly observed therapy (DOT) for patients at IOM TB clinic monitor treatment progress and drugs side effects, conduct monthly evaluation, observe DOT’s during the weekend, perform home visits and contact tracing, provide Health Education and counseling for TB patients and contacts;Ensures safekeeping and monitoring of TB drug inventory and tracking of expiry date, request of supplementary feeding for patients and other medical items on timely manner;Compiles required reports and timely submission to the National TB Program and IOM Kampala Office;Encodes data on spreadsheet, compile monthly statistical reports as required and ensure appropriate filing system for all reports and records;Safekeeping, monitoring and organization of medical stock and inventory especially tracking of expiry date. International Clinical Evaluation Consultant

Location:Uganda; Washington, DCDays to expiry:32Posted date:Accordia Global Health Foundation is seeking an International Clinical Evaluation expert to serve as a short-term consultant for the CDC-funded MENTORS operational research project in Uganda. The MENTORS project is a 2-year randomized-cluster control trial to determine the effectiveness of using on-site clinical mentorship to improve the clinical knowledge and competence of mid-level practitioners in providing HIV and TB care. Improvements in MLP knowledge and skills will be assessed through using case scenarios, clinical observations and facility performance.

The International Clinical Evaluation Consultant will provide technical expertise in clinical evaluation to a team of Ugandan clinical and research personnel working on the MENTORS project. The Consultant will review and revise the case scenarios and clinical observation tools. The Consultant will also review and provide feedback on the facility performance surveillance system. The Consultant will then develop a plan for administering the evaluation tools and analyzing the data. After the data is collected the consultant will provide support to the data team to guide data analysis and report writing. It is expected that apart from training the clinical data collection team, all work will be done remotely, with frequent communication with the teams based in Uganda and Washington, DC.

Responsibilities:

• Review and revise clinical case scenarios and clinical observations tools in collaboration with Ugandan team.
• Develop standard operating procedures (SOP) for the administration of clinical case scenarios and clinical observation tools
• Develop plan and process for piloting tools, including providing guidance on piloting of tools.
• Train local consultants in the administration of the clinical case scenarios and clinical observations tools to be administered at baseline, end line, 6 months post-, and 12 months post- intervention.
• Work with Ugandan team to develop entry screens for entry of data.
• Develop scoring system for tools in collaboration with Ugandan team.
• Develop detailed statistical analysis plans for the clinical case scenarios and clinical observations. Provide on-going support and guidance for data analysis and report writing with regard to the clinical assessment and case scenarios.

Qualifications:

• MD or Nursing degree with significant clinical education/clinical training evaluation and research experience highly preferred
• Expertise and experience in designing and implementing operations research studies
• Experience conducting statistical analysis for cluster randomized control trials
• Understanding of HIV/AIDS and TB clinical care
• Experience working in Africa or other developing countries
• Willingness to travel to Uganda for approximately 1 week.

The mission of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to build capacity of health systems in Africa for the delivery of sustainable, high quality care and prevention of HIV/AIDS and related infectious diseases through training, research and advanced clinical services. IDI has five operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: prevention, care and treatment; training; research; laboratory services (provided through a partnership with the Makerere University-John Hopkins University Core Lab) and Outreach programmes. Since April 2011, IDI, with funding from Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has been offering safe adult Male medical Circumcision services in Kampala as part of a comprehensive HIV prevention package for men. This initiative, branded “AMAKA -Adult Male Medical Circumcision in Kampala” is being implemented in two facilities in Kampala. IDI has received additional funding to further scale up MMC services beyond Kampala. This MMC scale up will initially involve the districts of: Kyankwanzi, Hoima, Kiboga, Masindi, Kibaale, Kiryandongo Buliisa and Kalangala among many others effective 1st October 2012.

8. CLINICAL OFFICERS (14)
Will be required to assess the clinical problems of clients, carry out circumcisions and head circumcision teams at respective health centres. He/ she must be able to treat each client with dignity,antt respect.

Key responsibilities:
• Conduct safe- medical circumcision surgery for adults at respective fixed or mobile sites.
• Ensure documentation of all surgical and follow-up procedures
• Ensure that circumcisions are carried out safely in accordance with agreed policies.
• Ensure that all activities as pertains to circumcision are done according to the standard operating procedures and ethical requirements.

The Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non¬government, non- profit HIV research program that was established in 2002 as a result of a memorandum of understanding between Makerere University and The Henry M. Jackson foundation for Advancement of Military Medicine Inc.’of USA (HJF).The primary purpose of MUWRP is to develop, evaluate and provide interventions to mitigate communicable disease threats of public health importance to Uganda. POSITION TITLE: Medical Clinical Officer 1 position Medical Male Circumcision Program
LOCATION: Kayunga and Mukono Districts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Under the direction of the MUWRP supervisors, lead fixed or mobile medical male circumcision teams in accomplishing service delivery goals.

The MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS is a centre of excellence in HIV/AIDS related research. It conducts large-scale epidemiological and intervention studies, clinical trials, virological and immunological research and behavioural studies, and has generated a wealth of research results that have been used to inform policy and practice, and that have led to a large number of scientific publications in peer reviewed journals over time. The Unit is integrated into the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) in Entebbe.

The Epidemiology and Prevention Studies Programme aims to examine the epidemiological factors that determine the changing course of the HIV epidemic; the long term epidemiological consequences of the epidemic, the prevalence of and risk factors for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) including malignancies; and to identify and evaluate effective HIV prevention methods relevant to developing countries.

We are interested in receiving applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following position:

Senior Clinical Epidemiologist

You will provide scientific and managerial leadership for the Unit’s HIV Epidemiological and Non Communicable Diseases studies at the Field Station of Kyamulibwa, Kalungu District and at other sites in high risk groups; and contributes to the scientific planning of the MRC Uganda Unit as a whole. You will work closely with the Head of Epidemiology and Prevention Programme, with scientists based in other programmes of the Unit, including Social science programme, the HIV care programme, the basic science programme and with colleagues from collaborating academic institutions.

Current activities of the programme are mainly based in Masaka district about 120 kms from Entebbe, and in Kampala. You will continue with ongoing research, but will also have an opportunity to develop research proposals related to his/her own interests within the frame of the Unit’s disease focus. You will be responsible for the timely publication of research results in collaboration with other staff of the Unit. He/she will participate in the development of the research capacity of the junior socials scientists.

Requirements: You will have MSc in epidemiology or related field and MD or PhD in a relevant area. You will have substantial working experience in epidemiological or clinical field projects with an excellent publication record in peer reviewed journals. You will be expected to work in a multidisciplinary team and have excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Training in Medicine with HIV/AIDS and NCDs research experience is desirable. Experience in working in Africa and in preparation of research proposals, grant applications and budgets are essential. You are expected to have a flexible and well organised approach to work and ability to meet deadlines.

The salary for this post will depend on qualifications and experience and will be within Band 2 (the salary range for this band starts at £44,314). • Improved linkages of HIV positive persons identified through HCT (both Community and PITC) to care.
• Regular support supervision visits, mentorship sessions and CME’s in all supported facilities.
• Participate in the process of accreditation of sites that are yet unaccredited for provision of Anti retroviral therapy services.

COMPENSATION:
Compensation for the position will be commensurate with experience, and training.
