Welcome to the United States Embassy in Kampala, Uganda.  The United States has enjoyed diplomatic

relations with Uganda for over 30 years. 

Ambassador Scott H. DeLisi currently heads the U.S Mission to

Uganda.  The Mission is composed of several

offices and organizations all working under the auspices of the Embassy and at

the direction of the Ambassador.


Among the offices operating under the U.S Mission to Uganda are:

  • United States Agency for International

    Development (USAID)

  • Centers for Disease Control

  • Peace Corps


Job Summary:  The American Embassy Surveillance Detection

Specialist provides security for USG facilities, employees and family and

family members by performing procedures to detect, recognize and report on

surveillance directed against U.S. Government facilities and /or personnel and

provides support directly or by calling for assistance. In case of imminent

attack, calls for immediate assistance and takes action to prevent injury or

death to personnel and destruction of property.


Qualifications, Skills and Experience:


NOTE:  All applicants must address each

selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information

  • The ideal candidate for the US Embassy

    Surveillance Detection Specialist should have completed Ordinary level (at

    least four years of formal secondary school) is required.

  • A minimum of two years of progressive

    experience in police or military work, OR four years of professional

    experience in a position requiring independent judgment and motivation.

  • The incumbent must be familiar with

    procedures for conducting and reporting surveillance – basic use of

    digital cameras and video recorders; Microsoft Windows computer systems;

    Basic use  of MS Word.

  • Ability to obtain a driver’s license is

    required.

  • Skilled in the use of surveillance

    equipment (e.g. audio/video, binoculars, photographic equipment, etc.) is

    required. Level 1 keyboard/typing and basic PC skills and ability to work

    independently and adapt to changing circumstances without requesting

    guidance.

  • Excellent organizational and observation

    skills.

  • Language Proficiency: List both

    English and host countiy language(s) by level and

  • Level 3 (good working knowledge) English

    is required. Level 3 (good working knowledge) in one local dialect (either

    of the following; Ganda, Swahili, Itesot, Japadola, Samya, Gisu, Acholi,

    Lugbara, Madi, Runyankitara or Soga) is required.
