RTI’s International Education Division is supporting education
development around the world by strengthening education policy, management and
practice in order to achieve measurable improvement in teaching and learning. From
our well-established reputation in education system strengthening, to
innovative work in early grade assessment and learning, RTI is improving
education quality, relevance and efficiency through implementation of projects
funded by USAID, DFID, Australian Aid and other donors and clients. RTI
International is implementing the Uganda Literacy Achievement and Retention
Activity Project (2015-2020).
Job Summary: The Reading
Specialist will be responsible for technical and managerial implementation of
teacher training efforts.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
- In charge of planning and delivering high
quality teacher training program for early grade literacy, for both pre-
and in-service programs, as well as design and implement a tutor training
program, - Significantly contribute to improvements
of teacher training programs - Actively monitor the implementation
progress and provide ongoing feedback to teacher trainers, mentor
trainers, and project staff - Make sure that all materials for teacher
training are procured on time for training and use in schools - Actively coordinate with other program
staff to ensure integration of education components throughout the
program, as well as inform the design and implementation of M&E
efforts and assessments - Seek and create opportunities for
establishment and development of lasting relationships with the – MOESTS
(Ministry of Education Science Technology and Sports) counterparts towards
the program sustainability - Ascertain that all of the teacher training
programs follow the standards and policies with respect to child
protection and safety.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
- The incumbent should preferably hold a
Master’s degree and nine years’ experience in the education sector with
deep understanding of scientifically based reading research, or
Bachelor’s degree and 12 years of relevant experience. - Working knowledge of a balanced literacy
framework, early literacy competencies and reading diagnostic measures. - Possess the ability to measure basic
foundation skills for literacy in the early grades. - Knowledge of mother tongue and English
transition instruction strategies.
