The Medical Research Council/ Uganda Virus Research Institute

(MRC/UVRI) Uganda Virus Research Unit on AIDS was established following a

request in 1988 from the Uganda Government to the British Government for

collaboration on the research of HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infection

and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency). The Unit is working on the Ebola Vaccine

trial “A Phase 1 Study to Evaluate the Safety, Tolerability and Immunogenicity

of Heterologous Prime-Boost Regimens Using MVABN ®-Filo and Ad26.ZEBOV Administered in Different Sequences and Schedules

in Healthy Adults. ”



Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide study information to participants

    and obtain informed consent

  • In charge of the completion and

    maintenance of screening and enrolment logs.

  • Actively participate in data collection

    through administration of study questionnaires.

  • Conduct medical procedures related to the

    clinical trial.

  • Quickly report adverse events to study

    physicians.

  • Regularly review and update clinic

    supplies and make requisitions appropriately.

  • Keenly track participants by phone or

    through field workers to ensure attendance of study visits.

  • Offer appropriate health education and

    counselling to patients and their attendants.


Qualifications, Skills and

Experience: 

  • The applicant should preferably hold a

    Diploma in nursing, midwifery or comprehensive nursing.

  • Additional training in public health,

    research methods, ICH/GCP is desirable but not essential

  • At least three years’ working experience

    in a clinical setting.

  • Registration with Uganda Nurses and Midwifery

    Council.

  • Past experience working in a research

    setting is an added advantage

  • Additional certificate in HIV/AIDS

    counselling and testing and ICP/GCP training is added advantage.

  • Fluency in English and Luganda.
