Uganda Christian University was founded when the historic Bishop Tucker
Theological College was promoted as a university in 1997. Bishop Tucker
Theological College trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history
from 1913-1997. The local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to
operate in Mukono. International partnerships were part of the College’s
missionary history. The Church Mission Society teamed with Ugandan leaders and
others to assure the College had the necessary intellectual and other capital.
By the late 1990s, the Church of Uganda sought to have a broader impact on
society through the higher education – not only of clergy but of other
professionals as well. Uganda Christian University was established in 1997.
Job Summary: The Driver/Mechanic will primarily ensure that
all University vehicles are well maintained by doing minor repairs, vehicle
servicing, inspection and assessment reports, and a long side offering driving
services to students and staff.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that the assigned vehicle is fueled
at all times as per the University Policy, and that the vehicle has
correct levels of lubricant, battery water and correct tyre pressure as
recommended. - In charge of providing driving services to
Uganda Christian University as may be deployed - Ensure that all passengers are safely
seated and belted up at all times in transit and assist them to embark and
disembark the vehicle. - Ensure safety of all luggage supplies and
equipment within the vehicle - Ensure that vehicles are clean and in
proper running condition at all times in compliance with Uganda Christian
University rules and regulations and the traffic laws of Uganda. - Maintaining the logbook for all duties
assigned. - Keeping safe custody of all vehicle
documents. - Reporting when the Vehicle is due for servicing
and repairs. - Conduct a diagnostic inspection of all
vehicles to ascertain suitability for a journey - Check if tyres are well fitted ,brakes
adjusted and all adjustments are done before the Vehicles set off for a
journey - Keeping records of repairs, service and
maintenance of all fleet and commonly replaced parts. - Endeavor to address drivers’ mechanical
complaints on vehicles and conducting inspection to maintain vehicle
functionality condition - Carrying out special inspections and
testing of vehicles and completing preventive maintenance for example checking engine oil and
tyres among others. - Assess and check vehicles to provide a
guide for major repairs - Quickly respond to routine and emergency
calls for break downs and repairs - Perform any other official duties assigned
by the Supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
- The applicant should hold a Uganda
advanced level Certificate of Education (‘A’ level) and a Certificate in
Motor Vehicle mechanics - Hold a clean and valid driving permit
preferably a DH class. - A minimum of three years’ experience in a
busy garage and as a driver - Excellent command of the English Language
- Ability to work under minimal supervision
- Should be willing and able to work beyond
normal working hours - Must be Self motivated
- Must be a committed Christian of high
integrity
