Report to: Managing Director
Pwc would like to recruit for
Umeme, a public company cross listed on both the Uganda Securities Exchange and
the Nairobi Securities Exchange with over 6,483 shareholders, including high
value international institutional investors. Umeme operates under a concession
with a structural monopoly in the distribution of electricity across Uganda,
distributing 99% of electricity in Uganda through a single buyer model.
Job Summary: The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will provide
the overall strategic direction for the finance function, with a key focus on
corporate finance, financial reporting, providing a framework of planning,
monitoring and reporting systems and ensure that the balance sheet exposure and
bottom line performance are managed efficiently and effectively.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
- Steer
the development and delivery of the finance strategy, within the overall
corporate strategy, to deliver sustained growth of shareholder value. - Develop
and lead the funding and investment strategy of the business to deliver
value and meet targets within the company’s contractual framework. - Manage
the company’s annual, medium term and long-term financial planning
process. - The
incumbent take accountability for the financial performance of the company
through effective planning, control and reporting; - Oversee
the financial advisory role for the senior management team, directors and
the entire company, for prudent management and utilisation of company
resources; - Measure
and report on company financial and operational performance; - Ensure
compliance with applicable statutory codes and accounting principles,
regulations, financing agreements and financial reporting framework
(IFRS); - Ensure
adequacy of policies, systems and processes to safeguard company assets; - Build
and strengthen working stakeholders including regulators, investors,
directors, tax authorities, financiers, banks, sector players,
shareholders etc; - Manage
all financial risks and exposures of the company.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
- The
ideal candidate must hold a degree in Business, Accounting, Statistics,
Finance or related fields, a qualified accountant (ACCA, CPA, CMA, CA or
CFA) - At
least five years’ experience in senior leadership positions. - Past
experience in the power and energy or utilities sector will be an added
advantage. - Past
experience in supporting staff development, performance and career
progression. - Detailed
accounting knowledge and financial analysis skills; - Ability
to develop as well as drive strategy for growth; - Excellent
communication and influencing skills that address various stakeholders; - Excellent
leadership skills and ability to exercise judgement based on accurate and
timely analyses
