UGANDA COUNTRY DIRECTOR REQUIRED

Since 1988 Send a Cow (SAC) has transformed a million lives, by helping African families and orphans to grow enough food to eat, sell their produce and develop small businesses that last by providing livestock, seeds, training and ongoing support. Its mission is to give communities and families the hope and the means to secure their own future from the land. The Send a Cow Group currently constitutes Country Programmes in seven African countries plus the UK and USA, together with a Group Executive which is based in the UK.

SAC has been working in Uganda for over 25 years and is now looking to build on its success by growing and developing both established programmes while seeking new and innovative opportunities.

Due to this expansion the existing Director in Uganda is moving to a new Group role, which means we are now seeking to appoint a Country Director for this challenging and exciting opportunity.

The Country Director will be the leader of all SAC projects in Uganda, enabling to demonstrating vision, leadership, strategic thinking and financial acumen to represent and promote SAC at high levels.

Key Responsibilities will include:
1. To develop and lead the implementation of the Send a Cow Uganda (SACU) strategic plans, accountable to the SACU Board and in liaison with staff, partners, government and the Group Executive as appropriate.
2. Provide leadership in the development, implementation and monitoring of SACU’s strategy, annual plans, programs and budgets in line with key performance targets and indicators agreed with the Board of Directors

3. To be proactive in the promotion of approaches to fundraising and collaborations which ensure all staff take opportunities for networking, monitoring, evaluation and reporting which increase the programme’s fundraising prospects.

4. To manage the offices and staff in accordance with the needs of the programme, including organisational policies, systems and procedures in line with SAC’s vision, mission, values and organisational strategic plan
5. To ensure the SAC information management systems are properly used by the organisation and implementing partners and to manage the organisation’s efforts and resources systematically for expected results/impacts, learning and accountability
6. To monitor and report to the Group office on all SACU performance and financial matters, and on a quarterly basis to the SACU Board.

7. To ensure that the financial policies and procedures are in line with relevant statutory provisions, with generally accepted accounting standards and with SAC’s established financial procedures.
8. Initiate, implement, supervise, maintain and improve SAC’s structures, systems, procedures and guidelines which facilitate the implementation of strategy and policy decisions.
9. Lead the maintenance of a robust HR function, empowering and motivating employees in line with the organisation’s strategy and HR Policies.
10. Provide Christian leadership, spiritual vision and direction within the organisation.

Experience and Training
• Should have at least 5 years post-qualification experience at a senior management position/ strategic leadership role in a reputable organisation preferably with strong Christian orientation with program and developement management.
• Excellent knowledge of the principles and practices of development programming and management, fundraising, networking, policy advocacy, monitoring and evaluation and donor relationship management
• Demonstrable experience and a track record of liaising with development partners, developing and implementing development projects / programs, working in partnerships, financial resource management, leadership / supervision of a team or teams of people
• Computer literacy – familiarity with word processing, use of spread sheets, presentation software as well as internet & E-mail use.

Education
Advanced university degree in any of the following fields: Economics, Statistics, Social sciences, agriculture, Business Administration, Development Studies or any other relevant degree. Possession of an additional qualification in a relevant area is added advantage.

• Mature Christian with Christian Leadership experience
• Excellence in effectively communicating with multiple audiences, strong interpersonal and networking skills
• Change agent, decision maker, team player, creative, innovative, and initiative in developing action plans and resolving problems as they occur
• High integrity and professionalism,
• Well-developed conceptual, analytical skills with the ability to provide expert advice in relation to formulation of development programs and proposal writing
