HelpAge International is an international NGO and the secretariat of a global network of over 100 affiliates working to support older people and promote their rights. HelpAge’s programmes are managed by a secretariat in London and six Regional Offices including one for East, West and Central Africa based in Nairobi.


A growing part of HelpAge’s work is in humanitarian crisis situations, where older people are amongst the most vulnerable. HelpAge International is the only international NGO dedicated to ensuring older people receive humanitarian assistance and protection. HelpAge’s strategic aim for its humanitarian work in East Africa is to ensure that older people are considered and their needs addressed in the planning and activities of African governments and humanitarian organizations in emergency preparedness, response and recovery programmes. We are now in the process of developing a particular focus on older people’s nutrition.


HelpAge East, West and Central Africa Region therefore seeks to recruit a Regional Nutrition Programme Manager who will initiate, support and manage nutrition programme work in humanitarian contexts within the region, through direct service delivery, advocacy, capacity building and provision of technical guidance and support to HelpAge team and other actors including governments, NGOs, UN and coordination bodies such as humanitarian clusters.


The ideal candidate will have a post graduate degree in nutrition, public health or related fields, technical and managerial experience in designing, implementing and monitoring nutrition programmes in humanitarian context and strong technical understanding of nutrition issues. Experience in developing donor proposals, developing and implementing beneficiary accountability framework, gathering and analyzing data to produce evidence as well ability to travel at short notice for extended periods, living and working in basic and/or difficult conditions are essential to this role
