Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) is an advocacy and lobbying coalition
of national women’s organisations, institutions and individuals in Uganda
formed in 1993. UWONET stands to promote and enhance networking, collective
visioning and action among membership and with different actors working towards
development and the transformation of unequal gender relations in the Ugandan
society. UWONET focuses on influencing
policy and practice changes through policy advocacy; networking; information
management and; institutional strengthening and capacity building.
Job Summary: The Legal
Officer/District GBV Coordinator will support the GBV Prevention and response
programme in Busoga Sub Region.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the position will
perform the following functions:
- Actively coordinate and network with
relevant stakeholders and provide overall management to running the GBV
shelter at the district - Responsible for documentation of all
activities under the programme, successes, best practices, lessons learnt,
challenges and recommendations - Provide appropriate legal counseling and
representation of GBV survivors and children in Courts of Law - Effective and efficient programme
implementation as per work plans and expected outputs and outcomes - Perform any other duties as assigned by
the supervisor from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate should hold a
Bachelor’s Degree in Law and a post graduate diploma in legal practice,
and must be an enrolled advocate of High Court. A Master’s degree is an
added advantage. - A minimum of three or more years’
experience in a related field, preferably in the Development/ NGO sector. - Computer literacy skills are a must with
strong knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word - The candidate should have a keen awareness
and a good knowledge of working with communities. - Strong team building skills
- Past experience in planning and
implementing project activities - Excellent report writing and documentation
skills - Ability to confront and discuss sensitive
issues with respect and confidentiality - Working knowledge of basic Monitoring and
Evaluation. - The applicant should be people centered
with good communication and Networking Skills. - Skills in diplomacy and assertiveness
- Ability to work under minimum supervision
- Past exposure and experience in project
management in a women’s rights NGO setting is an added advantage. - Languages:
Proficiency in English. Knowledge of Luganda and/Lusoga is an added
advantage
