Contract Period: May 2015 – 31st December 2015 (Extension is subject to funding availability)


Humanitarian Initiative Just Relief Aid (HIJRA) is an international African humanitarian and development organization that positively contributes towards improving the living standards and conditions of those adversely affected by disasters and conflict in the Horn, East & Central Africa by implementing WASH, Health, Education, Livelihoods, Community service & development and Protection programs in the region for a period of more than 20 years.


HIJRA with funding from the UNHCR in Uganda is implementing a multi-Sectoral Program for refugees Oruchinga settlement (Isingiro District) and transit centers in Kisoro and Bundibugyo districts. HIJRA, in a strategy to expand existing program implementing team, is now seeking for qualified person to fill the position of Assistant IT Officer.


Job Purpose


The IT Assistant will be responsible for effective operation, and maintenance of HIJRA Enterprise Systems, participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. S/he will ensure that HIJRA’s systems are designed and function in accordance with organization’s operational requirements and objectives accountable for the management of the organization’s IT which includes engineering and provisioning, operations and support, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual innovation and success.


Key responsibilities


Post holder will be responsible for:


· Backup and recovery of HIJRA enterprise systems


· Provide support and training to HIJRA end-users;


· Windows user account creation and management;


· Router and network management and monitoring;


· Development and maintenance of knowledge base;


· Deployment and maintenance of HIJRA standard software and hardware;


· Development and maintenance of departmental websites;


· Support the installation, configuration, development and management of HIJRA’s Enterprise Systems;


· Support users of HIJRA’s Enterprise Systems (including HURIS, MESURE and SERENIC NAVIGATOR);


· Perform regular monitoring, preventative maintenance, software upgrades, and proactive patching;


· Manage and administer changes to technical documentation in accordance with prevailing change management and operation procedures;


  • Prepare various technical reports.

· Assist in the preparation of technical and user documentation for entire systems and interdependent applications; prepares training materials and detailed technical presentation


· Any other duties assigned by the supervisor


Essential Qualities and Attributes


· 1-2 years’ experience with MS SQL Server 2005/2008;


· 1-2 years’ experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV installation, configuration, development and maintenance;


· Strong communication (both verbal and written) English language


· Proactive and problem solving skills;


· Diploma in in Information Technology, MIS, Computer Science or related field;


· Experience with Windows Active Directory, Windows Server 2008, Exchange Server 2010, MS Office 2010 suite;


· Working knowledge of server hardware;


· Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking;


· Any other duty as assigned by the supervisor


Preferred skills


· Experience in ERP software (including but NOT exclusive to SERENIC NAVIGATOR, MESURE, HURIS);


· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems;


· IT Professional Certifications
