TPO Uganda is a national Ugandan Non-Governmental Organization that has
been operating in Uganda since 1994. TPO-Uganda services are delivered through
a community and family oriented intervention model. We envision a society where
vulnerable and marginalized people enjoy mental health, social and economic
wellbeing and lead harmonious, mutually supportive and productive lives.
TPO Uganda is part of a consortium of NGOs led by Catholic Relief
Services (CRS) as the prime and ANPPCAN, ACODEV and Futures Group that have
been awarded a grant by USAID to implement a 5 year project titled “Sustainable
Outcomes for Children and Youth in Central and Western Uganda.” The project
aims to improve the health, nutrition, education and psychosocial wellbeing of
625,000 vulnerable children consisting 101,500 households.
Job Summary: The Project Driver will perform tasks related
to driving organization vehicles entrusted to you in a safe and economical
manner in conjunction with the organization policies and the traffic laws and
regulations of Uganda. Also, the incumbent will perform minor mechanical tasks.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
1. Transportation & Safety:
- Transport staff and visitors as
instructed. - Ensure safety of passengers and luggage at
all times. - Observe speed limits and all organization
travel guidelines. - Ensure use of seat belts at all times.
- Ensure proper communication procedures.
- Maintain vehicles allocated in sound
mechanical condition. - Ensure washing and general cleaning of
vehicles is maintained. - Ensure that vehicles are fueled and
serviced promptly. - Quickly report any faults/breakdowns &
accidents immediately. - Ensure First Aid Kits are complete and
spare & tools are in allocated vehicle. - Ensure that vehicle tools are always kept
in allocated vehicle.
- Ensure that all vehicles have log sheets
and pens. - Update and maintain accurate vehicle
records to ensure that ail trips, fuel fill-ups, time and mileage readings
are recorded. - Ensure fuel fill ups entry is made in the
log sheet timely and workshop request forms are filled and submitted for
review. - Send vehicle log sheets on a monthly
basis. - Ensure to check vehicle on daily basis and
submit check list report. • - Submit field trip report after every trip.
4. Delivering and receiving Mail:
- Prompt delivery of all mail and maintain
record on delivery book, inclusive of cheques and equipment. - Regularly check in post office for mail on
a regular basis. - Receive mail from partners and sub-offices
and hand it over as apt.
5. Check on vehicle comprehensive and 3rd party insurance:
- Ensure that vehicle comprehensive and 3rd
party insurance are valid. - Inform the Finance Officer two weeks in
advance of renewals.
6. Mechanical Activities:
- Road test and certify all vehicles from
the garages. - Perform any other duties assigned by the
Supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicants for the Driver Jobs should
hold O’ level Certificates - Three years driving and mechanical’
experience with Class A, B, C, and E Driver’s License. - Understanding of the Geographical area of
assignment. - Extremely flexible, and have the ability
to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines - Past experience with and enthusiasm for on
the job training. - High level of Integrity
- Effective communication skills arid good
listening skills - Personal hygiene
- Desire to work effectively in a team oriented
environment. - Ability to travel within rural Uganda.
