MU-JHU Care Ltd (MUJHU) is a
registered Ugandan non-governmental organization dedicated to providing
services and conducting research on HIV/AIDS care and prevention related to
mother-to-child transmission of HIV. MUJHU is implementing a US National
Institute of Health (NIH)-funded study entitled “Using Enhanced Peer Group
Strategies to Support Prevention of Mother To Child HIV Transmission (PMTCT)
Option B+ in Uganda” planned to take place in Mulago Hospital, Kampala, and
Mityana Hospital, Mityana District.
Job Summary: The
Health Visitors will support the Study Coordinator by undertaking field visits
to the community in the study recruitment.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:
- Actively
participate in screening of potential study participants. - Escort
the study participants’ home at enrolment so as to identify the location
of their residence and document the information on the locator forms. - In
charge of mapping of study participants’ residences using electronic
devices such as smart phones or tablets when enrolled participants are
escorted home after enrollment or whenever there is change in
participants’ residences. - Take
part in tracking of study participants to ensure that study visits are
conducted in a timely manner according to the study protocol. - Conduct
home visits to remind the participants who miss their routine visits and
support adherence to the medication and follow up on sick visits. - Offer
additional psychosocial support, increase adherence to antiretroviral
therapy (ART) and improve retention in health care. - Responsible
for supervising and training peer support team. - Actively
participate in regular meetings with the study team to discuss study
progress. - Perform
any other duties as assigned by the relevant authority.
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
- The
applicant should hold a diploma in Nursing (Public Health Nurse or
Registered Nurse). - HIV/AIDS
counselling certificate. - At
least two years’ experience in HIV/ AIDS care and support. - Possess
the ability to work independently and multi task. - Computer
literacy skills i.e. proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, email. - Ability
to speak read and write English and Luganda fluently. - Ability
to use a smart phone or tablet is desired
