Overview


Days for Girls is a registered non-governmental organization that is committed to empowering women and communities by promoting access to menstrual health management options and reproductive health knowledge.


The organization utilizes a multipronged approach to achieve its mission. In Uganda, DfG primarily focuses on embedding solutions to challenges created by lack of menstrual health management materials and reproductive health knowledge by partnering with local grassroots organizations and conducting comprehensive training and mentoring programs. Trainings offered include reusable menstrual kit construction trainings, sexual reproductive health workshops, soap making trainings, business skills sessions and starting a reusable menstrual kit business training and mentorship program.


Days for Girls headquarters is located in the United States, Days for Girls Uganda is based in Kampala.


Job Description


The Days for Girls Uganda Country Director position offers a unique opportunity for creative and innovative leadership. The country office is small and operatives on a tight budget but has been able to create effective and inclusive grassroots programs resulting in tangible outcomes. The Country Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Days for Girls Uganda programming ranging from program implementation to curriculum and program development to strategic visioning.


The ideal candidate for the Country Director position works from a deep understanding of inclusive grassroots development. S/he will have spent time working/living in rural or remote areas of developing countries (preferably East Africa). The ideal candidate has a background in sexual reproductive health and gender equality in African cultures. S/he has experience implementing livelihoods activities in developing countries. Experience in program design and implementation as well as managing and building the capacity of in-country staff members is essential. Candidates must have a proven record of producing quality work with small budgets and limited resources.


Specific Responsibilities


· Implement Days for Girls International’s vision in Uganda and ensure that all in-country initiatives are in line with the organization’s overall mission


· Analyze programmatic impacts making appropriate changes to existing programs and develop new programs and initiatives as needed


· Manage in-country staff including creating work delegation strategies, leading capacity building trainings, implementing performance reviews, conducting hiring and termination processes and mentoring staff


· Oversee operational budget


· Ensure funds are spent responsibly and in line with Days for Girls mission and vision


· Manage and build on Days for Girls Uganda’s sustainable business plan


· Responsible for managing and expanding on preexisting monitoring and evaluation systems


· Create and update training curriculums and manuals as needed as well as train or coordinate the training of in-country staff in Days for Girls content area including sexual reproductive health, gender equality and business skills


· Identify, build and manage collaborative relationships with partner organizations


· Manage Days for Girls income generating activity of high-quality African style crafts and identifying additional market opportunities both in Uganda and abroad


Skills and Qualifications


· Bachelor’s Degree in related field, Masters preferred


· 3 – 5 years management experience in cross-cultural settings


· Demonstrated experience managing organizational budget


· Experience writing and implementing grassroots development programs


· Strong interpersonal skills


· Experience living in rural/remote areas of developing countries


· Excellent written and verbal communication skills


· Creative and innovative thinker


· Proactive leader


· Strong knowledge in reproductive health, business skills and gender equality

Compensation


Compensation is modest, commensurate with experience.
